CHAPTER FOURTEEN SHOWDOWN He came back from the darkness he had plunged into. Someone was calling him. He thought he could see Avery’s faded shape. It looked like a dream, maybe the result of some past memory. Something similar happened after my first vision, he could hardly consider. He decided to let himself go and keep flowing through those thoughts. “Don’t dare!”, the voice thundered, as if it could read his mind. “Wake up!” I don’t want to. “Wake up, God damn!” No. The veil which was dimming his sight faded away. Avery’s features took a new shape: his wrinkled skin took a more decided look, framed by a thick dark beard. His eyes changed as well: instead of the old man’s watery ones, two deep spheres appeared, surrounded by an intense glare. That seemed just a nonsense to him
