First of all, some clarification.
The one you’re holding in your hands isn’t a historical essay and it was never meant to be. I’m far from considering myself an expert of this subject ( I could define myself an inventor of stories at the most), so I must apologize to anyone doing this job, who must have found lots of imprecisions while reading this book, from the description of places to the nautical vocabulary… till the protagonists. But, as can be said in cases like this: “names, places and events are imaginary and any reference to people, events or places really existing or having existed is a mere chance.”
