Chloe’s POV:
I sat down on the edge of the bed for a minute, taking in the night’s events. It felt like a dream. A never-ending nightmarish dream. I thought back to the flat and Charlie. I could feel anger starting to build up inside of me. I pushed back the memories; he did not deserve any more of my time. But I could help but to think back to all the times he had messed up before and I had forgiven him, I thought back to last summer when I had caught him sleeping with one of the girls from work. Why didn’t I just leave him? Because you did love him. I knew it was not my fault and I had loved him, but I don't think I had been in love with him for a while and there was no chance I would ever go back to him now. I looked down at my phone. 16 missed calls and 25 messages from him. I switched my phone off. For a moment, I felt relieved as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
I stood up from the bed and made my way across the bedroom to the en-suit, I turned the shower on and started to undress. As I stood in the shower, my mind started to drift. I could not stop thinking of Jaxon. Without warning, my mind just kept going back to him. The way he had touched me before was so gentle and kind and yet my body had felt on fire with desire at just that. I remember looking into his eyes. I could have sworn he looked at me with hunger and want, just the thought of him made my body tingle with exhilaration. MINE! I stopped. What the f**k was that? I could have sworn I heard it clear as day.
I turned off the shower and hurriedly wrapped myself up in a towel and walked back into the room. I rubbed my hair dry with the towel so it wouldn't drip every were and let it fall down my back. May and laid out a pair of pyjamas for me. They were a royal blue colour and looked to be made of silk. The cool material felt smooth to touch, like a second skin. I stepped into the shorts. They were slightly baggy on me but comfortable as anything. The top matched the shorts in colour, it was low cut and had thin straps to hold it up. I do not think I have ever been in something so beautiful and comfortable at the same time.
Just as I had finished getting dressed, I heard a soft knock at the door. I quickly went to answer it and opened it just ajar. ‘Hey, can I come in?’ I gazed up at him shocked at the fact he was standing at my door. He had not changed since this evening; he had undone a few buttons on his shirt exposing his chest. I studied his broad chest, and I saw the edge of a tattoo on his left peck. He looked at me with concern. Just looking at me, he made my body tremble. MINE! What was going on with me?
I nodded and moved to the side to let him in. He looked like he was in pain, and for some reason it did not sit well with me. I didn’t know him that well. Why did I have all these feelings towards him? I shut the door gingerly behind him.
‘Are you okay?’ he asked, pearing back at me with that same look of protective concern. ‘I am fine thanks’ I smiled at him shakily.
He stepped closer towards me, reached his hand out and gently caressed my face. ‘Are you sure?’ he peered down, looking deep into my eyes as if trying to see into my sole. I nodded, not wanting to open my mouth in fear that I would not be able to stop my tears from falling. His eyes narrowed as if he knew I was lying, he leaned in closer and whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine ‘I will kill them. Whoever hurt you. I’ll kill them.’ He moved slowly away and gazed back into my eyes. He was so close our lips could touch, I felt hot breath on my face, the smell of mint and aftershave, my body could not stop trembling at being so close to him.
He stroked my cheek with his thumb and he quietly spoke, with a shaky voice as if he were nervous, ‘You’re safe here, sweetheart’ and with that one sentence my tears that I had been holding back for so long began to fall. He wrapped his arms around me and held me close to him. I sobbed into his chest.
Jaxon’s POV:
I could have killed an entire village with the amount of anger that was building up inside of me. She sobbed as I stoked the back of her hair and held her close to my chest. Her hands clung to my shirt as if she was afraid I would let her go. My beautiful mate, she did not deserve this. No one did. Just holding her, my whole body tingled with desire, it somehow calmed me, but with each sob she produced the rage would build, yet just holding her kept me from losing control and demolishing the entire house.
‘I’m so sorry’ she muffled against my chest ‘It’s stupid, I hate crying. I’m fine honestly’ she whipped away the tears from her face as she moved away from me. I did not want her to move away from me, I wanted to make her feel safe. She sat down on the four-poster bed in the middle of the room and smiled at me as if trying to convince me life was good.
‘Yeah, you seem it.’ I could hear the bitter sarcasm in my voice, and I winced at my cruel tone. She looked up at me and smiled. Her eyes softened as if she suddenly felt calm ‘Can I ask you a favour’ she asked shyly, her hands shaking slightly as she spoke and was blushing slightly, she was so cute. I nodded, not fully sure about what she wanted, but knowing whatever it was, I would be happy to do it ‘Can you stay with me tonight.’ She looked down as she spoke, as if embarrassed at the question.
I walked over to her, bent down so I was on level with her eyes. I gazed into her eyes, softly smiling calmly ‘Of course babygirl.’
