CHAPTER 5: THE RETURN*
She didn't sneak back into the base. She walked through the front gate.
Every rifle turned to her. Every alarm screamed: DESERTER.
General Kane was waiting on the balcony, just like she knew he would be.
"You came back," he said.
"You made me," Kael shouted, holding the black box high so everyone could see. "You want to tell them, or should I?"
She pressed play. Kane's voice echoed across the whole yard:
_"They were weak, you are not... She will be declared deserted. Shoot on sight."_
Two hundred soldiers heard it. Two hundred soldiers looked at Kane.
Kane didn't deny it. He just stared at Kael. "Did you learn?"
Kael looked at the soldiers - kids like Jace who wanted to be a teacher. She looked at the empty space where Mira should be standing.
"I learned you don't get to decide who is weak," she said. "And I learned I'm done taking your orders. Now I give them."
She turned the box off.
"I'm not your Commander anymore. And you're not my General."
She threw her rank badge into the fire pit.

*CHAPTER 6: ASHES OF VALOR - THE END*
They didn't shoot her. Kane ordered it, but no one lifted a rifle.
The army let her walk out again. This time not as a deserter. As something else.
Kael went back to the battlefield. Not to fight. To bury them.
She dug three graves with her own hands.
Here lies Jace 22. Wanted to be a teacher.
Here lies Mira 19. The only other woman. My little sister.
Here lies Colt 30. Had a baby girl he never met.
She placed her knife on Mira's grave.
A voice behind her: "So what now, Commander Drax?"
It was the young patrol soldier from the ridge.
Kael looked at the burned depot, at the graves, at the dark road ahead.
"Behind me, the war is over," she said. "In front of me... I don't know. But it's mine."
She kept walking into the dark. No helmet, no army, no orders. Just proof in her pocket and names in her heart.
And somewhere behind her, the war that was bigger than all of them was coming.
But she would be ready.
