Season 2

SEASON 2: THE CAPITAL The Capital was not what Kael expected. She expected guns, walls, soldiers. Instead she found markets, children playing, music. People who had never heard the sound of a mortar. Eli held her arm as they walked through the gate. "You are shaking." "I haven't been in a city since I was seventeen," Kael whispered. "I don't know how to be here without a rifle." "You don't need a rifle here," Eli said. But Kael kept her hand on the black box in her pocket. Proof. It was the only weapon she had now. The Council building was white and tall. Ten guards at the door. They took Eli's knife. They tried to take Kael's box. "No," Kael said. "That goes with me." Inside, seven people sat around a round table. Not generals. Old men and women in normal clothes. The people who started the war from desks. A woman with grey hair stood up. Her name was Chairwoman Liora. "Commander Kael Drax. We heard your broadcast. The whole country heard it." Kael stood straight. "Then you know what General Kane did." "We know what you CLAIM he did," said a man with glasses. "That recording could be fake." Kael put the box on the table. She pressed play. Kane's voice filled the room. Cold, clear. "They were weak, you are not... She will be declared deserted. Shoot on sight." The room was silent. Liora sat down slowly. "Where did you get this?" "From the depot. Before Kane burned it. Jace hid it. He knew he would die. He wanted someone to know the truth." "And why did you come here? Revenge?" the man asked. Kael looked at him. "No. I came because Jace wanted to be a teacher. Mira was nineteen. Colt had a baby girl he never met. They didn't die for strategy. They died because you wrote their names on a list and called them weak. I want their names cleared. I want their families paid. I want no more lists." Liora looked at the other Council members. "And General Kane?" "He is outside," Eli said. "He came by himself. He is waiting for your judgment." Liora stood. "Bring him in." The doors opened. General Kane walked in. He was not in uniform anymore. Just a black shirt and pants. He looked old. He looked tired. He saw Kael and nodded once. "You broadcasted it," he said to her. "You made me," she said. Liora spoke. "General Kane, you ordered three soldiers to a depot with no support, knowing they would die, to trick the enemy. Is this true?" Kane did not sit. He stood like a soldier. "It is true. The Council ordered me to make our eastern front look weak. I chose the smallest team. The most expendable. It was a tactical decision. It saved two hundred other soldiers that week." "Expendable?" Kael's voice broke. "Mira was nineteen!" "And because she died, two hundred mothers got their sons back!" Kane shouted, then stopped himself. He looked down. Liora said, "Commander Drax, what do you think should happen to him?" Everyone looked at Kael. This was the moment she had dreamed of for months. Kane on trial. Kane punished. She could say: Shoot him. Prison. Death. Kael looked at Kane. She remembered when she was fourteen and he found her in the ruins of her village. He gave her food. He taught her to shoot. He told her: You are not weak. "You should not decide who lives and who dies anymore," Kael said quietly. "Not him. Not you. No one." She turned to Liora. "Remove him from command. Make him teach new recruits what NOT to do. Make him tell Mira's family himself what he did. That is worse than prison for a man like him." Kane's eyes filled with tears. For the first time in twenty years, General Kane cried. Liora nodded. "It will be done. And you, Commander Drax? The army wants you back. We will give you a brigade. A thousand soldiers." Kael shook her head. "I don't want soldiers. I want to build a school. Where the depot was. For kids like Jace. And I want Eli as my second." Eli smiled. "Then it is done," Liora said. "You will have your school. But the war is not over. The enemy is still coming from the north. They heard our broadcast too. They think we are divided now." Kael picked up her box. "Then let them come. This time, we won't send the weak to die. We will all go together." END OF EPISODE 1 SEASON 2 --- *For New Episode 8: Title = SEASON 2: THE SCHOOL* --- THE SCHOOL It took three months to build. Where the burned depot once stood, there was now a building made of wood and stone. No fences. No guns at the gate. Just a sign painted by Eli: VALOR SCHOOL - For Jace, Mira, and Colt. Kael woke up every morning before sunrise. She no longer wore armor. She wore a simple shirt and pants. Her hair was growing long. Thirty kids came the first week. Children of soldiers. Children of farmers. Children who had no family left from the war. Kael taught them how to read maps. Eli taught them how to fix radios. Kane, who now lived in a small house behind the school, taught them history. He never shouted anymore. One day, a girl came to Kael. She was fifteen, with Mira's eyes. "Are you Commander Drax?" she asked. "I was," Kael said. "My sister was Mira. You buried her." Kael knelt down. "I did." "Did she suffer?" Kael thought about that night. The fire, the screams. "No," Kael lied gently. "She was brave. She saved Jace. She saved Colt. She saved me." The girl started crying. Kael hugged her. "Do you want to stay here? You can learn. You can be anything. Not just a soldier." The girl nodded. "I want to be a teacher. Like Jace wanted." Kael smiled. For the first time since the war, her heart felt light. That night, alarms rang. Eli ran into Kael's room. "North ridge. Enemy scouts. Fifty at least. They are testing us." Kael stood up. She looked at her old rifle hanging on the wall. She hadn't touched it in three months. "Get the children into the basement," she said. "Get Kane." Kane came, holding a rifle. He looked at Kael. "Your school," he said. "We cannot let them burn it." "We won't," Kael said. She picked up her rifle. It felt heavy. Different. She, Eli, and Kane went to the ridge. Fifty enemy soldiers were coming down the hill, with torches. Kael stepped out alone, without her rifle. She held up her hands. "STOP!" she shouted. The enemy stopped, confused. They expected soldiers, not a woman in a plain shirt. "This is a school!" Kael shouted. "There are children here! If you want to fight, fight me. Not them." The enemy commander laughed. "You are Kael Drax. The deserter. Kane's dog." "I was," Kael said. "Now I am a teacher. And behind me are thirty kids who want to be teachers, engineers, doctors. If you burn this, you prove you are worse than Kane ever was." The enemy commander looked at his men, then at Kael. He saw no fear in her eyes. He lowered his torch. "We were told you were divided. That your Capital and army fight each other after your radio broadcast." "We were," Kael said. "And we learned. Did you?" For a long moment, no one moved. Then the enemy commander turned around. "We came to fight an army. We found a school. We don't burn schools." They left. Kael fell to her knees. Eli caught her. "You did it," Eli whispered. "Without a shot." Kane walked up behind them. He put his hand on Kael's shoulder. "You finally understand, Commander," he said. "Valor is not about how you die. It's about what you build so others don't have to die." Kael looked at the school behind her. Lights were on. Children were safe inside. She had walked into the dark at the end of Season 1 with nothing. Now she had everything. A school. A family. A future. And the war that was bigger than all of them? It was still coming. But now, when it came, it would find not just soldiers. It would find teachers, builders, and thirty kids who knew their names mattered. THE END OF SEASON 2 By NIMCO
