*SEASON 3 - THE COMPLETE SAGA: FROM THE BREAKING TO NEW VALOR* *EPISODE 11: THE BREAKING OF THE BLACK THRONE* The great hall was silent. For a hundred years, no one had dared to speak while sitting on the black throne, but now the throne itself was shaking. Kael stepped forward, his hands still glowing from the fire of the last battle. Behind him, Lyra held the wounded, her sword broken but her eyes unbroken. Varric laughed from the throne. "You think you can end me, boy? I built this throne from the swords of every man who tried to kill me. It is a thousand blades. It cannot be broken." Kael didn't answer. He remembered the villages Varric had burned, the children who had no food, the ash that fell like snow every winter because of Varric's factories. He remembered his own mother. "I am not here to kill you," Kael said quietly. "I am here to end what you built." He placed his hand on the cold black metal. The throne screamed — not Varric, the throne itself screamed. For a hundred years it had drunk fear. Now it felt something it had never felt: true fire, fire that did not want power, fire that wanted freedom. Cracks ran up the thousand swords. Varric's eyes went wide. "What are you doing? Stop!" The cracks became light. Orange, then white, then brighter than the sun. Lyra shouted, "Kael, get back!" But Kael held on. "Let it break! Let all thrones break!" With a sound like a mountain splitting, the black throne exploded into a million pieces of hot metal dust. The dust did not fall — it rose into the air and became stars inside the hall. Varric fell to the floor, no longer a king, just an old man in expensive clothes. "My throne... my beautiful throne..." Kael stood over him, breathing hard, his hand bleeding. "Your throne is ash now. Like everything you took from us." Behind them, the doors of the great hall burst open. The people of Valor — the common people, not soldiers — entered. They had heard the explosion. They saw the ash-stars falling. One old woman fell to her knees and cried, "We are free. We are finally free." *EPISODE 12: THE CHILDREN OF VALOR* Kael had never seen the vaults under the palace. Lyra held the torch while he walked down the stone steps. The breaking of the throne had triggered a low rumble, like a heartbeat under the floor. "Varric kept prisoners down here," Lyra whispered. "But this is deeper than the prison." They reached the bottom. A massive iron door, covered in runes Kael recognized from his childhood. The language of the Ashen Order. The door was already open. Cracked from the inside. "No," Kael breathed. "This is impossible. The vault was sealed before I was born." Inside, the room was circular, with no roof — only darkness above. In the center, seven stone beds. On six of them, children slept. Thin tubes of blue light connected their foreheads to a crystal in the middle. Lyra dropped to her knees beside the nearest bed. A girl, no older than eight, with white hair like Kael's. "Who are they?" she asked, her voice shaking. Kael touched the crystal. Memories that were not his flooded his mind. He saw Varric, younger, kneeling before this crystal. A voice from inside it — ancient, female, terrible — speaking: "Give me your strongest children. The ones with fire in their blood. I will make them gods, and you will have an army that never dies." The Children of Valor. The girl's eyes opened. Pure white, filled with blue fire. "You broke his chair. You broke his promise to Her." "Who is Her?" Kael asked. The girl smiled, and the other five children opened their eyes at the same exact second. "She is waking up. And she is hungry. She has been hungry since you were born, Kael of Ashes. You were supposed to be the seventh." The crystal cracked. A hand made of blue flame reached out and grabbed Kael's wrist. The pain was cold — a cold that burned worse than fire. Lyra cut the hand off. It turned to ash. The children sat up. "Too late. She has your scent now. She will come up. And when she does, your pretty peace will burn in one night." Above them, the whole palace shook. Something was climbing out of the mountain. Kael pulled Lyra up. "We have to get them out! We are not leaving them to become weapons!" Behind them, the crystal shattered completely, and a column of blue fire shot straight up through the palace floor, through the great hall, through the roof — visible from every corner of the capital. *EPISODE 13: KAEL'S OATH* The blue fire did not stop burning. For three days it burned straight into the sky. People called it The Second Sun. Kael had not slept. The six children were in the healer's house, staring at the blue fire through the window. Kael stood on the broken balcony where the throne had been. Below, the leaders of the city were arguing, demanding answers. "Varric promised us protection!" "The Ashen Child destroyed the throne! He cursed us!" "We should kill the children before they kill us!" Lyra came up behind him, exhausted. "They are scared. They need a leader, Kael. Not a destroyer." "I don't know how to lead," he said. "I only know how to survive and burn things." "Then learn," she said, and pushed a small wooden box into his hands. Inside was a simple silver ring made from the melted swords of the throne he had shattered. "I had the blacksmith make it from the dust. It's not for ruling. It's for promising." Kael looked at the crowd, then at the blue fire, then at the ring. He stepped to the edge and raised his hand. The crowd went silent. "I am not your king!" he shouted. A murmur went through the people. "Varric was your king! And where is he? Dead! His throne? Ash! His promise of safety? That blue fire that wants to eat us all!" He held up the silver ring. "I will not sit. I will not rule. But I will make you an oath — the oath no king of Valor ever made." He slipped the ring onto his own finger. "I, Kael of Ashes, swear that no child of this city will ever be taken in the night again. No child will be used for war. No child will be called cursed for the fire in their blood. I will go down into that hole. I will face what Varric woke up. And I will not come back until it is dead — or I am." The white-haired girl from the vaults appeared behind Kael. "He speaks true. She is coming. The First Mother. And only ash can kill ash." The girl took Kael's bleeding hand. "I will go with you." One by one, the other five children appeared. "We will all go." Lyra drew her sword and stood beside Kael. "And I will go." From the courtyard, a young soldier shouted: "And we will guard the city while you are gone!" Beneath their feet, deep in the mountain, something laughed — a sound like cracking ice — and the blue fire burned brighter, as if it had heard him and was waiting. *EPISODE 14: THE RETURN OF FIRE* Dawn never came. The blue fire was so bright that the sun could not compete. Kael stood at the edge of the hole where the throne had been. The hole was now a tunnel, pulsing with blue light. Behind him: Lyra, her sword strapped tight. The six children, holding hands. And behind them, the entire city watching. Lyra tied a rope around Kael's waist. "If you fall, I pull you. If I fall, you pull me. Like in the Wastes, remember?" "I remember," Kael said. The white-haired girl, whose name they learned was Eli, stepped forward. "We have to jump. She will not let us climb. She wants us to fall to her." "Who is she really?" Lyra asked. "Before Valor, before kings, there was only fire. The first fire was a woman. She was lonely, so she made children from ash. But her children burned too hot and left her. So she went to sleep under the mountain and dreamed of children who would never leave. Varric promised her we would stay forever." Kael jumped. Lyra jumped right after him, and the six children jumped together. They fell for what felt like forever. They landed not on stone, but on ash. Soft, warm, gray ash that went on forever. Only sky made of fire, and in the middle, a woman sitting on a throne that looked exactly like the one Kael had shattered — but made of living blue flame. She was beautiful and enormous. Her hair was fire, her dress was smoke. "My children," she said, her voice shaking the ash desert. "You came back. I knew you would." Kael stepped in front of the six children. "We are not your children. We are our own." The woman — the First Mother — looked at Kael. "You are the seventh. The one who ran. I felt you when you were born." "Varric was not your husband," Kael shouted. "He was a thief! He stole children and gave them to you!" "I gave him power!" she screamed, and the whole ash desert caught fire. Kael did something no one had ever done to the First Mother. He opened his arms. "I know lonely," he said quietly. "I was lonely my whole life too. They called me cursed. But holding tighter only makes the fire burn hotter." He walked toward her, his own chest now burning blue and orange together. "If you want children who stay, you have to let us go." And he hugged her. A boy made of ash hugging a mother made of first fire. For the first time in a thousand years, the First Mother felt warm — not hot. Warm. She cried. Tears of real flame fell onto the ash. *EPISODE 15: NEW VALOR* The hug lasted one breath where time stopped. Then the First Mother broke. Not in anger — in release. The blue fire that made her body cracked like glass, and from inside, orange light poured out. Warm light. The color of a hearth, not a wildfire. "Don't let go," she whispered, holding Kael. "If you let go, I will be lonely again." "You won't," Kael said. "Because we will remember you. Not as a monster. As the first." Lyra put her hand on the Mother's burning arm and did not burn. "We will tell the children where fire came from." Eli touched the Mother's face. "You can sleep now. We will not leave. We will stay in the world you made, but not in chains." The First Mother smiled. "Then let me give you one last gift. Not chains. A choice." She lifted her hands, and the ash desert rose up into blue birds, thousands of them, made of light. They flew up through the tunnel, out of the palace, into the sky above Valor. The Second Sun became a sky full of falling stars. Down in the ash desert, the Mother was getting smaller. Underneath, she was just a woman — old, gray, frail. "I was called Myra once," she said. "Before they called me Mother." Kael held her as she sat down. "Myra. Rest." She closed her eyes. "Will you stay until I sleep?" "We will," Lyra promised. The six children sat around them, humming a lullaby from before kings. Myra slept. As she slept, her body turned to soft, warm ash that sank into the ground. Where she had sat, a small tree grew — the first tree ever to grow in the ash desert. Its leaves were orange and blue. The tunnel above began to close gently. The mountain itself pushed them up. When they emerged into the great hall, it was real night. Stars were visible through the broken roof. The whole city was waiting. They did not kneel. They ran forward and hugged them. Eli tugged Kael's sleeve. "What now?" Kael looked at the broken palace, at the people, at the sapling, at Lyra. "Now we build New Valor. No thrones. No vaults. Just a city where no child is ever called cursed again." Lyra took his hand. "And no mother has to be lonely again." Behind them, where blue fire once burned, the little tree was taking root, its roots reaching deep — not to hold, but to give shade. *END OF SEASON 3* ---
