EPISODE 003

Tina cleaned up her tears and tried to hide the fact that she was sacked from work so her Mom wouldn't be disturbed. The aroma coming from the kitchen made her salivate as her Mom was preparing pancakes and bread for breakfast.

When she came in, she rushed into the fridge to get something cold to drink, maybe soda. Then when her Mom saw her, she was worried as her face was dull, gloomy and her eyes all red.

“What happened baby, did something bad happen?” Her Mom asked.

“Nope Mama, why are you stressing yourself making us breakfast, you could have waited so would return” Tina replied.

“I just wanted to help my baby girl who works so hard to provide for us, and we are proud of her” She said as she held her daughter's shoulders.

“Thanks Mom” Tina said as they both smiled at each other.

“Know always that you're strong, my big baby” she said, holding her cheek.

“Ok mama” Tina replied.

“Now sit back lemme get you breakfast, I know you must be really hungry” she said as she turned back to check what was cooking.

“Absolutely Mom, I am starving” Tina said. So her Mom set the breakfast and went into the room to give her husband his own because he was too old to move about. After which she returned to the dining table to join her daughter.

“So tell me, how was work dear? Hope you're a very good girl there?” She asked.

Tina who had been eating for a while paused, it was as though the meal couldn't pass through so she coughed. So her Mom gave her a glass of water to calm her down.

“Take dear, drink” She said, giving her a cup of water.

“Thanks Mom, work's going fine Mom” Tina said even though her heart started beating so fast.

“That's my baby girl, Mama loves you okay, keep being a good girl” Her Mom said.

“Thanks Mom, can I eat now?” Tina asked because she didn't want her Mom talking throughout the meal and she was avoiding more questions. In less than 10 minutes, she was done. The meal was really nice and tasty.

“You want more?” Her Mom asked.

“No Mom, I am good” Tina said as she stood up to leave.

“Did you like it?” Her Mom asked.

“Sure Mom, I really loved it. Just that I need some rest, work was really stressful”. Tina explained.

“Alright, you actually need it” her mom said.

Tina left for her room, but what was on her mind was how she could apply for another Job so she rushed to her laptop and kept on searching for close to two hours till she found one. It was a job vacancy for the post of secretary at ANDERSONS GROUP OF COMPANIES which was a big and popular company.

So she wrote an application letter hoping to get a favourable reply as actually her fear wasn't losing her job but getting another one as soon as possible.She stayed on her laptop for some hours and slept off.

Her Mom came to check up on her and saw her sleeping so she covered her with her blanket and switched off her laptop.

In the next two hours Tina's phone rang and that was when she realized she was actually sleeping. It wassup her boyfriend, James. She cleaned her eyes and picked.

“Hello baby” James said from the other end.

“Hi” Tina said as she yawned.

“Oh my, were you sleeping?” he asked.

“Yeah, but it's fine” she said.

“You sure?” He asked.

“Yeah, so what's up baby?” She asked. “How's work going?”

“Fine dear, yours?” He asked.

She paused.

“Hello?” He said.

“Ohh, sorry work is fine” She said.

“Okay, I called because I would be free tonight so I was wondering if you could come visit since it wouldn't be your shift right?” He asked.

“Oh yeah, no problem” she said.

“Alright, love you” he said intending to end the call.

“Much love, bye” she replied as she fell back on her bed to continue sleeping.

That evening, she prepared and left for his place which was a few streets from hers. So she boarded a taxi to take her there. In the taxi, a lot of thoughts flashed through her mind, based on the fact that she just lost her job. She was really worried.

She just prayed she would get another job soon, not just soon, but very soon so it wouldn't be noticed that she was sacked. In less than 10 minutes, the taxi driver calling her to pay up was what brought her mind back.

“We are here ma'am” the driver said.

“Oh okay” she said.

“You haven't paid me yet ma'am” he said as she was about to leave.

“Ohh, take, thank you” she thanked him and stepped out.

“You're welcome ma'am” he said and drove off.

She crossed the road to the other side, towards a storey building in which James' apartment was at the top floor. James was preparing dinner, some noodles, when he heard a knock on the door. He was happy when saw Tina.

“Hey babe” James said with outstretched arms and a smile.

“Hi love” Tina said as they hugged and kissed.

“How are you doing?” He asked.

“Fine, how about you?” She asked as she walked in.

“Just trying to make us dinner” he said, heading back to the kitchen.

“Hmm, smells really nice” she complimented him.

“Yep, so how's work?” He yelled from the kitchen. He was lucky he came back in time as the food almost got burnt.

There was silence. It lasted for a while as Tina didn't want to respond. She sat on the couch watching the TV in silence, waiting for the meal.

“As I asked earlier, how was work?” James said as he took the meal from the kitchen to the dining.

“Work?” She asked as though she didn't hear it earlier on, “Work's fine, work's good, just stress”.

James knew with her response, something wasn't right, or she was hiding something from him so he asked, “Did something go wrong last night?”

“Last night? Nope, like I said, it's just stress okay, am fine” she replied trying to avoid eye contact with him, not wanting to open up, even though he kept persisting.

“Babe, are you sure? You know you can tell me anything at all right?” He continued, “I know how you look and sound when things aren't alright, so tell me what happen—-”

“I got sacked today babe, and am so confused because I don't know what to do next, how to get another job and am even scared to tell Mom, Ohh God know I don't want to give her a heart attack” She cut in immediately, at first, it was as though a little burden was lifted, but James was calmly listening.

“That's sad” James said in a consoling manner.

“Am so confused babe” she said as she broke into tears as he rushed to give her a hug.

“Don't worry, everything is going to be fine, okay?” he assured her.

“I hope so, just feeling bad for Mom and Dad” she said, still sobbing.

“Don't worry dear, they will be fine, just don't be disturbed” He said trying to console her. He then remembered the food which he placed in the dining room, and continued “Hey babe, how about we eat the food so it doesn't get cold, that way you will feel better”.

“Alright, even though I have lost my appetite” she said.

“Just have a taste” he said, carrying her to the dining table.

When she tasted it, it was really nice that she couldn't stop. She kept munching on and on in silence.

“Seems you like it right” he said as he watched her devour the meal.

“Hmmm, yeah” she said as she couldn't talk much because of the food in her mouth.

When they were done eating, she followed him to the room because she planned on spending the night with him. They laid together in bed, her head on his chest while he was touching her hair in a romantic manner

The room was dark and there was silence for a while till James broke it, “You know I love you right?” He inquired.

“Yeah babe, and I love you too so much” she said with surprise in her face, “Why did you ask dear?”

“Nothing dear” he said, still rubbing her hair.

There was another silence, then James spoke again, “ Babe, are you in the mood for—-” he paused, expecting her to understand that he was in the mood for s*x.

“For?” She asked, “ohh, nope Hun, am not in the mood, okay?” She said, hoping he understands.

“It's fine” he said, still touching her hair.

After awhile he slept, and her phone beeped. What she saw made her smile so well that she slept off.
