The car drove farther away, and Isabelle did not have time to take another look.
For some reason, she took out her phone and searched the name "Elijah."
But all the results that came up were gossip articles from a few months ago.
Title: "Mr. Inglewood Photographed Late at Night! Spends the Night with Famous Actress at Five-Star Hotel!"
There were many similar pieces of news.
Isabelle really couldn't bear to keep reading, so she locked her phone.
She knew it. Bad people did not die that easily.
How could someone like Elijah die so young?
It was probably someone else from the Galloway family who had passed away.
Isabelle closed her eyes, not wanting to think about it anymore.
But memories of the past still surfaced in her mind beyond her control.
The day they broke up happened to be the third anniversary of her relationship with Elijah.
Just a few days earlier, Elijah had said he would take her home to meet his parents.
But that day, Isabelle discovered the text messages between him and another woman, arranging to meet at a hotel.
She took the phone and went to question him.
Elijah only glanced at it faintly, then said in a very calm tone, "It's exactly what you saw. Let's break up. I'm tired of you."
At that moment, all of Isabelle's disbelief and self-comfort were stuck in her throat.
After a long time, she finally asked with difficulty, "Elijah, what exactly did you take these three years between us for?"
Elijah lazily lit a cigarette, his tone carrying a trace of mockery.
"Do you understand what it means to want to win? The more I couldn't get something, the more I wanted it."
Those words completely crushed Isabelle's heart.
"I was blind!"
That was the last thing she said to Elijah.
Just then, the taxi stopped, interrupting Isabelle's memories.
The corners of her eyes were slightly red, and she couldn't help cursing under her breath, "Scumbag! You might as well be dead, so you can stop harming other people!"
After returning home, Isabelle immediately called her agent and asked if there were any work arrangements recently.
But her agent only replied, "Not for now. Just rest at home."
"All right."
After hanging up, Isabelle felt even more frustrated.
Showbiz was like a pyramid.
The people standing at the top could earn 2.08 million dollars in a day.
But the people at the bottom might not even earn 208 dollars in a day.
Her last job had fallen through because of what had happened to Simon.
Now, she was no different from someone unemployed.
Most of the money she earned had been sent back home, and now she even had to be careful with what she spent on food.
Just as she was feeling upset, the alarm on her phone suddenly rang.
"Beep, beep, beep!"
Isabelle picked up her phone and saw that it was a schedule reminder from her memo app.
Only then did she remember that tomorrow was her college reunion.
The next day, Isabelle arrived at the hotel on time.
When she reached the door of the private room, she heard someone inside mention her name.
"Did you hear about what happened to Mr. Quinton yesterday?"
"I heard. It was pretty scary... Oh, right, that Isabelle seemed to be on that crew too. She played some maidservant whose name no one even remembers."
"Haha... I really thought she'd make it big. But a pheasant is still a pheasant. In the end, didn't Mr. Inglewood still dump her?"
It was as if Isabelle had been struck head-on. Her steps instantly froze in place.
Among the people speaking, there was one voice she knew very well.
It was Yvette Hargrave.
Back in college, Yvette had once been her very close roommate.
Before Isabelle could come back to herself, the private room door was opened from the inside.
Just like that, she met the eyes of the people inside.
The people in the private room fell silent for a moment.
A moment later, Yvette smiled and spoke.
"Isn't this our 'Cinderella'? What? Without your prince, you can't even get a supporting role now? Why don't you beg me? I can introduce you to a new sugar daddy."
Isabelle's face turned pale.
She badly wanted to retort.
But what right did she have to retort now?
Isabelle clenched her hands, no longer wanting to enter the room at all.
Just as she was about to turn and leave, footsteps suddenly sounded behind her.
Yvette immediately stood up and went over to greet the newcomer. She pushed Isabelle aside and smiled ingratiatingly at the person who had arrived.
"Emily, why are you here too? You're so busy, but you still took the time to come see us old friends. What an honor for us."
The woman smiled and said, "No matter how busy I am, I can't forget my friends. Maybe I'll even need everyone's help in the future."
Isabelle stared blankly at the newcomer.
The person who had arrived was Emily Naylor.
She was a female celebrity who had recently become popular.
Back in college, Emily had not stood out.
But over the past two years, she had suddenly become famous, starring as the female lead in one major IP drama after another.
Now, she had actually become the most successful one among their classmates.
Meanwhile, Isabelle, who had once been admired by everyone, had now become a joke in their eyes.
Fate really was ironic.
Isabelle suppressed the bitterness in her heart and lowered her head, preparing to leave.
But Emily suddenly took her hand, warmly led her into the private room, and sat her down. She even said reproachfully, "Don't listen to them. Even if they're joking, they shouldn't go that far. You're so beautiful. You'll definitely have a chance to make it someday."
Hearing Emily say this, Yvette awkwardly closed her mouth.
The others also stopped mocking Isabelle and began talking about other gossip instead.
Isabelle looked at Emily, somewhat overwhelmed by the favor.
She had not expected Emily to speak up for her.
Her heart tightened, and she said softly, "Thank you."
Emily smiled and said, "You're welcome."
Throughout the whole reunion, Emily took good care of Isabelle.
She even said that she could help introduce roles to Isabelle in the future.
When they were leaving, Emily affectionately held Isabelle's hand and gave her a carved wooden doll.
Isabelle had drunk some alcohol, and her head was heavy and muddled, so she did not think much of it.
After returning home, she fell asleep very quickly.
In the middle of the night, Isabelle was woken by a strange sound.
The sound was like a baby's laughter, and it sounded extremely eerie.
She looked around, but there was nothing.
Isabelle thought she had simply misheard.
But when she lay back down and was about to continue sleeping, that sound rang out again.
This time, it was very close to her.
It was actually coming from under the blanket!
Immediately after, she felt something wet on her stomach.
It was as if something was slowly wriggling across her belly.
Isabelle suddenly threw off the blanket.
The moment she saw what was in front of her, all the blood in her body seemed to freeze.
Under the dim light, thick blood was everywhere on the bed.
And on her stomach, there was a ghost baby lying there!
