Chapter 10

The person standing at the door was actually Elijah! Isabelle felt Corbin's body stiffen beside her. Then Corbin let go of her and instinctively took a step back. The Elijah in front of her gave her a gentle smile. "Long time no see, Isabelle." Isabelle instinctively glanced inside the house. It was pitch-black inside, and she couldn't see anything clearly. She ignored Elijah, then seemed to remember something and took a jewelry box out of her bag. "I brought the necklace with me today. I'm returning it to you." Elijah pressed his lips together and did not reach out to take it. "This is something I gave you." "I don't need it!" Isabelle impatiently shoved the jewelry box into his hand. "Elijah, we broke up a long time ago. Please don't bother me again in the future!" With that, Isabelle left without looking back. She did not notice that from the moment the door had opened, Corbin beside her had already frozen in place, completely unable to move. Only after Isabelle disappeared from sight did the restraint on Corbin finally vanish. But before he could even take a step, he was dragged into the room by a powerful suction. "Corbin, let's have a proper talk." Corbin was slammed heavily against the wall. With a bang, the door shut violently. A beam of moonlight shone into the room through the window. Only then did Corbin see clearly that the room was actually a mourning hall! Elijah's photo was placed right in the center! Corbin trembled all over and reached with difficulty for the jade talisman around his neck. This was something he had spent several million dollars to obtain from a master. That master had said that as long as he smashed it, Elijah's soul would be destroyed. Corbin finally touched the jade talisman. But before he could breathe a sigh of relief, he heard Elijah let out a disdainful laugh. "Heh. Do you really think that thing can save you?" The next second, Elijah reached out and crushed the jade talisman directly. Jade fragments scattered in every direction. Yet the powerful ghost before him was completely unaffected. Corbin's pupils contracted sharply, and his whole body began to tremble. In his despair, he actually began to laugh under his breath. "Elijah, kill me if you dare! I could get you killed when I was alive. Even after I die, I can still kill you again!" Elijah smiled as well. His gaze was cold and eerie. "Don't worry. You won't die. You're still useful." ***** Isabelle stormed away from that villa. But she was not familiar with the layout of the Inglewood Manor, and as she walked, she somehow lost her way and ended up at the greenhouse. The greenhouse was filled with irises. Large swaths of blue-purple flowers looked almost dreamlike in the dim evening light. Isabelle couldn't help stopping and looking at them for a while longer. Just then, the voices of two servants reached her. "The eldest son died, and that illegitimate son Corbin really hit the jackpot!" "Mr. Inglewood and Mrs. Inglewood are truly cold-blooded too. Their eldest son only just died, yet they act as if this family never had someone like him at all..." Isabelle froze in place. Her mind instantly went blank. Elijah was dead? How was that possible? She had clearly just seen him! The two servants were still talking. "When Elijah was buried, Mr. Inglewood and Mrs. Inglewood didn't even go! Sigh, he really was pitiful." "Exactly. Even Serenity Creek Memorial Gardens, where he was buried, is just an ordinary cemetery. Tell me, what was the point..." Serenity Creek Memorial Gardens? Wasn't that the cemetery she had passed by when she saw Serena before? Isabelle's face turned pale, then flushed, changing back and forth. Her heart was in complete turmoil. Was Elijah really dead? Then what exactly had she seen just now? And what had happened with that phone call before? Isabelle took out her phone and dialed Elijah's number again. But this time, she found that the number had already become invalid. A chill ran down her back. With heavy steps, Isabelle left the greenhouse. By then, the sky was almost dark. The entire Inglewood Manor seemed lifeless and gloomy. This time, Isabelle finally found the way out. But before she could reach the entrance, a panicked shout from a servant came from behind her. "Move aside! Don't block the way! Mr. Inglewood has to be sent to the hospital immediately!" Isabelle turned around and saw Corbin, covered in blood, being carried into a car. She froze in place. Her heart sank little by little. ***** By the time Isabelle returned home, it was almost midnight. The moment she entered the door, an icy hand wrapped around her waist. "Why did you come home so late today?" His voice was low and hoarse, carrying a coldness that did not belong to the living. When Isabelle heard it, it felt as if it had pierced straight into her heart. She did not answer and walked straight to the dining table. In the vase on the dining table was a bouquet of blue-purple irises. They were exactly the same as the flowers she had seen in the greenhouse at the Inglewood Manor today. Isabelle stared at the bouquet for a few seconds, then suddenly spoke. "Weren't you following me the whole time today? Then how could you not know why I came home so late?" That invisible "person" did not answer. Isabelle's voice turned cold. "You were too busy torturing Corbin to care about me, weren't you?" The air remained silent. A mocking smile appeared on Isabelle's face. "Elijah, have you had enough fun?" A very, very soft sigh sounded in the air. Under Isabelle's icy gaze, the figure of a "person" slowly appeared.
