**CHAPTER 10**

**The Revelation** **Elena’s POV** The chaos around me was deafening—gunfire, shouting, the shattering of glass. Smoke filled the room, stinging my eyes and making it hard to breathe. My heart raced as I peeked over the edge of the overturned table, watching Dante and my father fire at the intruders with deadly precision. This wasn’t my world. I didn’t belong here. But as I watched the two most important men in my life fight for survival, something inside me shifted. I couldn’t sit here and watch them die. The memories came flooding back—long-forgotten days spent at the shooting range with my father when I was just a kid. He’d taught me to shoot to protect myself, a skill I never thought I’d need. I had pretended to hate it back then, but the truth was, I had been good at it. Really good. My father’s voice echoed in my mind: *“Elena, in this world, you either protect yourself or you get taken down. You don’t hesitate. You don’t miss.”* I looked down at the pistol lying on the ground a few feet away. One of Lorenzo’s men must have dropped it in the chaos. My fingers twitched with hesitation, but then I thought of Dante, standing in the open, vulnerable as he reloaded his weapon. This was it. I lunged forward, grabbing the gun. Its weight in my hands felt both foreign and familiar. The room seemed to narrow, the noise fading into the background as adrenaline coursed through my veins. “Elena!” my father shouted when he saw me. “What are you doing? Get back!” But I ignored him. I stood up, my hands steady as I aimed at one of the intruders closing in on Dante’s flank. My breath slowed, my focus razor-sharp. The moment felt like it stretched into eternity. *BANG.* The man dropped instantly, his weapon clattering to the ground. Dante turned, his eyes wide with shock. My father froze mid-fire, his jaw slack. “Elena,” Dante murmured, his voice barely audible over the gunfire. But I wasn’t done. Another man stormed through the doorway, his rifle aimed at my father. My feet moved before I could think, placing myself between him and the shooter. *“Not today,”* I whispered, pulling the trigger twice in quick succession. He fell, and the room grew eerily quiet. --- **Dante’s POV** I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Elena stood in the middle of the room, gun still raised, her chest heaving. The girl who had seemed so fragile, so innocent, had just taken down two men with precision that rivaled some of my best shooters. “Where the hell did you learn to do that?” I asked, my voice hoarse. She turned to me, her eyes blazing. “My father thought it was important to teach me. Guess he was right.” Lorenzo finally stepped out from behind cover, his face a mixture of pride and disbelief. “You remembered,” he said, his voice soft. “I didn’t have a choice,” Elena shot back. “You two were about to get killed.” Before any of us could respond, more footsteps echoed down the hallway. Elena didn’t hesitate. She crouched low, moving to the doorway and peeking around the corner. “Three men, heavily armed,” she whispered. “They’re spreading out.” I exchanged a glance with Lorenzo, who looked just as stunned as I felt. “Elena—” I started, but she cut me off. “Do you trust me?” she asked, her gaze piercing. I hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah. I do.” She smiled faintly. “Good. Then follow my lead.” --- **Elena’s POV** My hands didn’t shake. My mind was clear. For the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t afraid. I darted into the hallway, using the shadows to my advantage. The first man didn’t even see me coming. I raised the pistol, aiming for his shoulder to disarm him. He crumpled to the ground with a cry of pain. Dante and my father were right behind me, taking out the other two men before they could react. When the last shot rang out, the silence that followed was deafening. I turned to face them, my breath coming in short gasps. Both of them stared at me like I was someone they didn’t recognize. “Elena,” my father finally said, stepping closer. “I didn’t know…” “You didn’t need to,” I replied, my voice firm. “But now you do.” --- **Dante’s POV** She was incredible. In that moment, Elena wasn’t just the girl I’d sworn to protect. She wasn’t just Lorenzo’s daughter. She was a force to be reckoned with, someone who had just turned the tide of a battle we were on the verge of losing. But with that realization came a new fear. If the Montessi family found out what she was capable of, they wouldn’t just want her dead. They’d want her on their side. “Elena,” I said softly, stepping closer. “You’re not just a target anymore. You’re a threat to them.” Her eyes met mine, unflinching. “Then let them come.” --- **End of Chapter 10**
