CHAPTER 59
NOVA'S POV
By the time I wake up, I can feel the energy surging through my veins. There is nothing stopping it at that point.
Not even taking a shower. Even as I allow the cold water to pour from my head to toe. I stare at the mirror, taking in the way my eyes change colors more times than usual.
I swallow hard. A part of me is already scared. Scared that I am going to do something I am going to regret like hell.
I don't want to destroy yet another room in the pack. I haven't seen Cassian all day, and Jason tells me that he went out to get some information.
As I slip into my dress, I know that I have to get out there and see what is actually going on. I have to see if he is just in his office, avoiding me the way he usually does.
I walk towards his office, and I notice the way some of the pack members look away. The others bow subconsciously.
“She has finally come out,” someone says, making me stare at my shoes.
I can smell the fear coming off them, but that isn't what I want them to feel when it comes to me. Why can't they just like me for who I actually am?
I feel more isolated at the pack. The priestess is the only person that is in actual talks with me.
Speaking of the priestess, Cassian and I are supposed to go and see her.
I push the door to the office open, and Cassian is there, just as I expect. That can only mean that something is wrong.
“You didn't come to bed last night,” I say, and he looks up at me. I can see the dark circles that are already forming underneath his eyes. This man is tired. And he is barely sleeping, I can tell.
His jaw rests on his hand. “I just thought you needed space,” he says, and I sit down in front of him.
“I actually wanted you around,” I say calmly, and he c***s his head to the side, like he is trying to know if I am being honest.
“I'm sorry,” he says, but I can already feel distance in the way he speaks. Something happened. I could swear on my life with it.
“Where did you go then?” I ask, and he opens his mouth and closes it, like he is rethinking what he is about to say. “Don’t you dare lie.”
“I went to see Killian,” he finally says. I can see the defeat written all over him, and I don't ask him any more questions.
I get up quietly, heading out of the office. I walk right up to Killian's apartment.
I don't even knock. I just push the door open. He smirks. I notice the marks that Beatrice is nursing to.
Cassian couldn't have… no.
“First time having you here,” he says, and Beatrice simply clicks her tongue.
“The least you could have done was knock, Nova.”
“It's important,” I say, and Killian looks up at Beatrice, jerking his head towards the door. She hesitates, but she ends up heading out.
Killian sits up. “What do you want?” he asks.
“Answers.”
Maybe that is why I am there in the first place. I want answers, and he is the only one that is willing to tell me what other people will not.
I can't deny the fact that I like that about him.
“Come on,” he says, getting to his feet without even hesitating. My feet are stuck to the ground as he heads out.
He turns back to look at me. “Are you going or not?” he asks, and I lick my lips.
“I am,” I whisper. I force myself to move, and I follow him out of the pack. He leads me through the desert, finally stopping right in front of what looks like a temple.
There are huge pillars holding the temple up. There are markings that look ancient, and some of them still glow in gold color.
I narrow my eyes at what I am looking at.
“Where is this place?” I ask in a whisper, and Killian runs his hands along the pillars. They seem to react to him. The building rocks slightly.
He smiles. It is the first time that I am seeing a genuine smile on his lips. “They always do that.”
“Who are you talking about?” I ask, obviously clueless.
I notice that the markings on the wall are the same as the ones I have during my visions.
I can feel the power coming from the temple. It is almost as calming as the sacred grounds. But this one feels a little bit more sacred.
A part of me can hear people crying there. Their wishes. At the same time, I can hear the ones that are happy, thanking the moon goddess. It feels like I am there, watching those people alive.
“Your bloodline was hunted centuries ago,” Killian suddenly says, making me drag myself away from those voices and pay attention to him.
“Why?” I ask in a whisper. “Were they monsters?”
That is the only reasonable explanation for what is happening. I am more than sure that normal wolves can't do what I do.
That is the only reason why other wolves were looking at me like I’m some kind of science project. It is the reason why my mom ran to the human world. To keep herself safe. At least, until she gave birth to me.
I want to believe that she did everything she could to keep me safe. She just couldn't. It was too much for her. And then they took her away.
Killian c***s an eyebrow. For the first time, I actually feel safe around him.
“You feel like a monster?” he asks, and I don't hesitate to give him a nod.
“It feels like that when you can't handle or control the things you do. You can't blame me.”
He nods. “But you aren't anything close to that. Your kind control bonds.”
