CHAPTER 16
NOVA'S POV
I don't know how I did it, but I am standing there in a room with ten dead men on the floor. And the silver is tied to my arms. But it is a lot more loose now.
“Cassian,” I whisper again, and Cassian blinks, like he is trying to understand everything that is happening in front of him.
“f**k, Nova,” he says, as he finally walks towards me, stepping over the men. He is about to touch the silver, and I quickly take my hand away.
“What are you doing?” I ask. “You're going to be hurt.”
“I don't think that matters now.” He says, grabbing my arms, and the silver digs into his fingers immediately. I feel him go weak, and his knees buckle.
Tears sting the back of my eyes. I am not supposed to be feeling pity for this man. But I am doing it either way.
The silver finally falls on the floor, and I rub my hand against my wrists.
“How did you find me?” I ask, and he licks his lips.
“You were calling out to me. I can hear you.”
I can feel a different kind of pull to him. The type that makes me want to grab his clothes and rip it off him. He turns me around, like he is trying to check for injuries. Then he grabs my cheeks and for just a second, it feels like he is going to kiss me.
“Did they touch you?” He asks, and I shake my head.
I find myself reaching out for him as well, as I check him for any injuries. That is when my fingers graze his back, and I feel him hiss in pain.
I make him turn around, and the injury is there. Sword like.
I feel my throat slowly close up, and I place my first two fingers on it. I watch as golden strips of energy come from my wrists, stitching the wound together somehow, and Cassian looks at me again. In a different way.
“Thank you,” he says, and I roll my eyes slightly.
“I didn't know the Alpha was capable of thanking me.”
“You helped me. I have manners.”
“And it took you long enough to come and save me.”
He looks around, with an eyebrow c****d. “You were handling it.”
Before I can even think of a reply, there are more screaming men right behind us.
The fight resumes, and I can hear the pack guards in the main entrance. There is a clanging sound of metal.
As Cassian heads back to the main room, I follow him. There is no way I am letting him fight alone. Jason has managed to grab one of the normal shields and he is swinging it like crazy.
That doesn't stop him from looking in my direction, and giving me a small eye roll. We both hate each other's guts. Is that going to change any time soon?
No.
I look up to see if Cassian notices. He isn't even looking at me. He immediately makes a run across the room, and I cover him with the energy that is suddenly blasting out of my hands.
There is energy humming through my veins again, and I watch as the golden energy blasts through their bodies, and they land on the floor like molten iron. The same effect that the silver has on the werewolves.
“What the f**k?” I hear one of the guards ask, but that is the least of my worries.
Cassian is stabbing men, avoiding the silver, and moving through the little crowd that has formed like it is nothing. Screams are going around, and I am trying as much as I can, to control the power.
At some point, it starts to flicker, and I feel my hands go weak.
Cassian is across the room, but I can feel his eyes on me. Before I even know what is happening, he is right in front of me, covering me in every way possible.
My fingers immediately fist a part of his shirt, and the both of us move in sync. It is almost like we are the same person.
Jason and the other guards are moving in the same way, like this is some kind of dance to them. But the sweat that is dripping down their face and their grunts give them away.
The place soon goes silent, and Cassian is breathing hard as he turns to face me.
“Are you okay?” He is asking, and I give him a small nod as I swallow hard.
His eyes are golden, and his teeth are elongated. Like he is already considering biting into my neck. Marking me again.
Before I can even say a thing, he snaps them back in like a pocket knife.
“Later,” he says, and I don't know if it is some kind of threat, but a part of me likes it.
Jason licks his lips as he walks towards me. “I hope you're happy now,” he says, and I narrow my eyes, taking a step towards him.
“What the f**k are you talking about?” I ask, and he scoffs.
“Oh, you're going to pretend that you don't know we're here because of you? We're here to save you. All because you couldn't be more careful.”
I take a step towards him, with my chin tipped. “I was in my room when the whole thing happened. Maybe I should be the one asking you why the security isn't right. You are in charge of that, aren't you?”
He finally goes quiet, and Cassian steps in front of him.
“What are you trying to do?” He asks. “Step back.”
That seems to make Jason even more angry, but I don't care. This time, he is wrong.
Cassian looks around one more time, and he has a hint of relief on his face.
“At least we're done with this. We can leave.”
The guards give him a nod, but there is something wrong about the whole thing. I can't get rid of the feeling. Something makes me want to stay there in that place for so much longer.
But I give him a small nod anyway.
“Of course,” I whisper.
