CHAPTER 65

CHAPTER 65 CASSIAN'S POV There is no way I am changing towards Nova after what she tells me. I want to have her around me all the f*****g time. I want to make sure that nobody is taking her away. I could have her chained to me if I had my way. But then, she is Nova. She wants her freedom. And I am going to trust her enough to have it. She is in the garden for some reason, and I am just glad that she hasn't blocked me out of the bond. I can feel her, and everything that she has been doing so far. “You miss me?” She asks through the mind link, and I can't help but smile. She can talk to me through the mind link, even when she isn't a wolf. Nova is just someone that we can't understand. I can understand her frustration about not knowing who she is. A part of me is confused at some point. She is the golden vessel to them. But to me, she is Nova. My mate. Nothing more, nothing less. “I always miss you,” I mutter back. I am watching every single person as I stand at the terrace. Every single movement. I am not playing with Nova's vision. I already swear to myself that if I see even one person acting weird, I am going to f*****g hold them down. “Hello, brother,” Killian says, and I turn around to look at him. Of course, he is just going to take it upon himself to trouble me. “What do you want?” I ask. As I look at him, I notice that he looks softer. The smirk that is always on his face isn't even there. If he is putting on a front, he is doing it a little too well. “I just came to check how you're doing,” he says, standing right beside me. In the past, I hated having him around me. Talk less of standing right beside me. Now that he does that, I don't even have the urge to tell him to f**k off. His presence seems almost… comforting. “Why would you do that?” I ask, looking back at the pack compounds. “Because of the pressure that the elders are trying to put on you. They're acting crazy. I can only imagine that things have been hard.” That is new. I turn to look at him, with my eyes narrowed. “What do you really want?” I ask calmly. “You're looking for another opportunity to manipulate Nova? To take her to places where the wrong things could happen?” He looks at me like I am mad. But I am not even backing down on my claim. “You're going to act like things didn't get worse after you took Nova to that temple?” He shakes his head defensively. He still doesn't smirk. Hell, he looks weak at that point. “I took her there so that she could resonate with the things that we felt whenever we went there. Have you forgotten how mom used to take us there when we were kids? The way the temple seemed to rock under our feet.” I smile bitterly as I look away. “She took you there. I just tagged along.” Killian can't say a word more. He knows that I am saying the truth. “And now, you're withholding information as well. How long can you keep it up?” I take a step towards him. “Are you hiding connections with the broker?” “I've done nothing but try to hold back a war, and you still don't get it!” Killian snaps. I narrow my eyes at him. What war is he talking about? From the same people that burned down the warehouse? I try not to grab Killian's collar to get him to speak. I remain where I am, with my feet rooted to the floor. “Tell me everything you know,” I say calmly. He exhales slowly, and I mentally brace myself for anything that he is about to say. “The vessels don't just influence bonds. They can destabilize the entire pack emotionally. And you think it's only one pack she can influence? Wait until she does it to a whole f*****g district.” He closes the space between the both of us. “If Nova fully awakens when she's emotionally compromised, wolves could kill themselves under her influence.” I feel my blood go cold. It has already been hard to keep Nova stable emotionally. And she is deeply bonded to me. More than she should be at this stage. There is nothing normal about it. “She's close to fully awakening,” I mutter under my breath. She is finding out something new about herself almost every time. And she hardly uses her powers at her own will. It is just something that happens anytime it wants. “Yes,” Killian says, moving away as he rests his arms on the banister of the railings. There is a sudden hollow feeling in my chest. I don't like it one bit. I can't push away the feeling that we are so f****d. “And you know, your love might be the one thing that ruins her,” Killian says. You know that hollow feeling I feel in my chest? It quickly turns into a gnawing feeling. Wrecking my chest from the inside. I relax against the wall behind me. Anything to hold me up at that point. What the f**k am I supposed to do? Stop caring for her? Stop loving her? “How can I end it?” I ask Killian, and he bites his lower lip, like he doesn't want to say what he has in mind. “I don't know, Cassian. But I should be the one to remind you that your time is near.” The pack’s alarm suddenly blasts through the pack, and wolves hurry out, like they are searching for something. Killian and I look at each other, before we hurry downstairs. Wolves are panicking around the pack, and we manage to stop one of the guards. “What happened?” I ask. I am already bracing myself for any kind of war that might be coming up. But it is nothing close to that. “Beatrice has been abducted, Alpha,” the guard says, and I watch all the color drain from Killian's face.
