CHAPTER 57
NOVA'S POV
The crowd outside has slowly dispersed, and I manage to find my way to my room. Cassian is right behind me, but he doesn't even take that much time in the room. He heads outside again, and I understand that he has to do it for the betterment of the pack somehow.
I am not the only one that is allowed to ask for his attention. Hell, the pack has him before I do.
I can't get those words out of my head. There is a second vessel. I am not the only one that they are looking for. Now that they have found the second vessel, does it mean that I am safe?
The duvet is over my body as I try to sleep. But I can't even do that. Not when the gears in my head are turning, and my brain is working overtime, trying to figure out what is actually happening.
Before I even know what I am doing, I slip my feet into my shoes, and I head outside.
I know that I will be going back to the sacred grounds again. I just don't know how long it is going to take me. And tonight is that night.
My legs shake slightly, and I force myself to keep going. Even the breeze is leading me in that direction.
They want me to go there. Whatever it is, they want me to be there.
I walk through the normal bushes that change after a while. The air gets thick, and before I know it, I am standing right in front of the wall again. The wall that looks like it is hiding all the secrets of the earth.
This time, it starts to feel warmer. Like it is used to seeing me around.
As I bring my hands to the wall, I can feel something pulling me in. Welcoming me.
The visions come easier than usual, and my chest surges forward, as I allow it to take control.
I can see a girl with dark hair in an underground room. There are chains around her hands and legs, keeping her down. She fights against the chains, fighting for her life. Her eyes glow silver.
I can feel the weakness she feels. She is angry but at the same time, she is alive. Which is a good sign.
The girl suddenly raises her head, looking directly at me, like she can see me. I feel my throat close slowly.
“You're late,” she whispers.
I jerk out of the vision, managing to hold myself up. I am shaking violently.
There is something about her. Something that feels more than similar. She is like me in a way, but I can't place how.
Someone is trying to collect us like artefacts. I am not sure that the broker is working alone. And that only makes him scarier.
I manage to find my way to my room, and Cassian is waiting for me there. He looks up at me, with a worried look.
“You were supposed to be sleeping. Where were you?”
“I had a vision,” I say, and my voice is still shaking. He pats the other side of the bed, and I go to sit down beside him without a second thought.
I am wringing my hands in front of me, as I try to make sense of what is happening.
I tell him everything about the vision that I had, and Cassian is silent as he listens to me, like he doesn't want to miss a word of what I am saying.
“Do you think she's dangerous?” he asks calmly, and I look up at him, barely able to hold back the tears that are more than willing to spill.
“No,” I whisper. “I think she's trapped.”
Cassian presses his lips into a thin line. “And then what happens if she's like you?”
“I don't know,” I answer without thinking twice. It doesn't matter if she is like me. I can practically feel her pain.
Before I can even think of how to answer Cassian, a knock comes at the door, and he hurries there, opening it only to see Jason there.
“Sorry to disturb you, but you're needed.”
Cassian walks back into the room, kissing my forehead one more time.
The second he heads out and closes the door, I can feel the golden threads of energy pulse through my skin. My hands shake again, and I can feel something change.
It is almost like I can see myself in the sacred grounds again. I am in my room. So how?
I feel myself surge forward again. My legs hit the ground before I even know what is happening.
I can see the silver-eyed girl again. She looks up at me one more time, and she looks more than tired. But this time, there is sadness written all over her.
I imagine myself walking over to her, and her eyes follow all my movements in my head.
“Who are you?” I whisper, and she smirks. Her smirk looks wicked. Like she thinks I am even stupid for asking her that question.
“I can help you,” I say one more time.
She shakes her head gently. “You can't. Focus on your own problems.”
I narrow my eyes at her, trying to figure out if she can see that I have any other problems.
“He's lying to you,” she suddenly says, and I am immediately pushed out of the vision.
What the hell?
I try to get back there, but I can't feel the energy under my skin anymore. I am sitting on the floor in the room, and there are tears streaming down my cheeks.
I know two things. I can communicate with this girl, even without being in the sacred room. And secondly, she says somebody is lying to me.
But who could it be? Cassian or Killian? I don't know who it is between the both of them, but it has to be one of them. They are the only two that are trying to keep me safe somehow.
For the first time, I don't know how I am supposed to trust anymore.
