CHAPTER 28 NOVA'S POV I don't know what I'm doing. I’m supposed to step away from this man, but I can't bring myself to do that. I want to be around him. There is a sudden scent in the air that pulls me even closer to him. I am standing right in front of him before I even know what I'm doing. He c***s an eyebrow, and he looks at me in amusement. “You really want to feel good, don't you?” he asks, and I swallow hard. I nod immediately. “It's been a while,” I mutter under my breath, and his eyebrows shoot even higher. “That's not the only reason why you want me.” He isn't lying, but I am not willing to tell him that. Not yet. My pride is over telling him the truth. His hands find their way into my shirt, and his fingers make contact with my skin. A gasp escapes my lips, and Cassian smirks. It is almost like his fingers are burning into my skin. I love the feeling. Cassian c***s my chin with his free hand, making me look at him. “If you don't tell me what you want, then I will stop,” he says, and I lick my dry lips before looking up at him again. “I want this,” I breathe. “I want you.” There. I have finally said it. Cassian leans down to kiss me, and my knees almost give way. He holds me close to him, using his body as some sort of support. But that doesn't stop him from kissing my lips like he wants to devour me. My hands find his hair, and I tug harder. A groan escapes his lips, and my other hand finds the waistband of his jeans. I can feel Cassian stiffen slightly, and that is my cue to bite down on his lower lip softly. Another groan escapes his lips. I have an effect on him. I am more than glad to know that. He pulls away from the kiss, and my hand is still against his waistband, and I immediately notice the bulge that is starting to grow. I can feel the heat pooling at the bottom of my stomach. I am just about to lean in for another kiss when the doorbell goes off. The both of us immediately step away from each other, and my heart is hammering in my chest. It has to be the pizza guy. I lick my lips again before running my hands against my trousers. I wrap my hand around the doorknob before finally pushing it open. As soon as I do, I take in the sight of the delivery guy, whose lips are spread in a wide smile. “Nova?” he asks, and I give him a small nod. The smile on his face immediately wipes off his lips. “Are you okay ma'am?” he asks, and I press my lips into a thin line, taking the pizza from his hands. I head inside, and I catch him peeking into the room. I grab my phone from the counter, transferring the money to him. “Received?” I ask, and he nods. I can tell that he wants something, but at the sight of Cassian, everything about that changes. One of the reasons why I am glad to have Cassian around. By the time I am back inside, Nate is at the bottom of the stairs. His hair is damp, and I can't look past the way he looks so much like my dad. My chest hurts at the sight. Maybe that is the reason why I am more than glad to have him taken away. He reminds me so much of our parents. More than I want to remember. “Is the pizza here?” he asks, and his stomach rumbles right after. I extend my hand for him to take. He immediately walks right past it, clinging to Cassian again. I can barely stop the tears that threaten to spill again. But that is okay. I bring this upon myself. I have to live with that. “Come on,” Cassian says in the most lively voice I've heard him use. “Let's get dinner started.” The three of us sit down around the table, and I immediately take one slice, stuffing it into my mouth. It burns my tongue like hell, but I don't even mind. Nate soon polishes off three slices of the pizza before heading upstairs, not saying a word. My eyes are fixed on his back as he disappears into his room. “Give him time,” Cassian says, pulling me out of my thoughts. “I know,” I whisper shakily. “Maybe things would have been different if I tried to figure out how to take care of him. Now, I can't push past the thought that he hates me.” He only came with me because I was with Cassian. “At least he is here with you,” a voice in my chest snaps. I get to my feet immediately. “Come on,” I say, looking over at Cassian. “Let me show you to our room.” It is weird having to say it like that, but I am not staying in the living room while my mate is around. He gets up as well, following me upstairs. The stairs creak underneath my weight. As soon as I get to the room, the bedsheets remain untouched. Just a little bit of dust here and there. I quickly wipe them off. Cassian's hands are stuffed in his pockets as he looks around. “What do you think?” I quickly ask, and he presses his lips into a thin line before giving me a small nod. “It's perfect,” he says, and I give him a nervous giggle. “I know that it's nothing compared to the house back at the pack, but…” Within two strides, he is right in front of me, and he places his index finger against my lips. “The last thing I'm worried about is the space,” he whispers. “What I really want is to finish what I started in the living room.” I can feel my pulse quicken at the base of my neck. I tip my chin, maintaining eye contact with him. “I'd like that too,” I whisper, and Cassian immediately leans down, with his hands wrapped around the back of my thighs before he lifts me up, making me wrap my legs around him.
