CHAPTER 10
Cassian's POV
I don't know what I am thinking, but I know that I have to move Nova from here. For countless reasons. The first one being that she needs to be safe.
I don't know what I am going to do if anything happens to her. It is enough that she doesn't have any actual family. I’m not going to be the one going to hurt her, or allow anything to happen to her. The guilt is going to haunt me for the rest of my life.
Another reason is that I want to keep her safe for myself. I almost lost control in that room, and I am sure that the next time it happens, I am going to lose control like hell. A part of me wants it to happen. And I can see it in her eyes too.
A knock comes at the door, and I can't help but lean back on my chair, in the space that is known to members as my office.
“Come in,” I call out, and two deltas along with Jason walk in.
Jason has an eyebrow c****d. He knows that I have barely ever called him for meetings in recent times. I am not about to lose my mind over the stupid thing that he did, getting Nova injured. That can be handled later. Her safety first.
“You called for us, Alpha,” the deltas say, standing in front of me with their hands to their back, while Jason stands at the side, watching me.
“Yes,” I say, before leaning in. “My mate has to be moved.”
My eyes are fixed on their faces, and I don't know what I am expecting. A look of shock? I don't know. Anything at all to give them away. It never comes.
Jason is the only one that sighs, moving from foot to foot. The sound of his boots is enough of a distraction. I shoot him a look, and he finally stops moving.
“Where do you plan on moving her to?” Tim, one of the Deltas asks, and I run a hand through my face. I don't even know yet.
The last place I want to move her to is my brother's pack. If anything, he would want to take Nova as his. Just as he has done to everything that I own. But at the same time, he is the safer version.
“Any ideas?” I ask, looking among the three of them.
“We can ask a few other Alphas for their help. We've been helpful to them either way,” the other Delta says, and I give him a small nod.
“She will be moved either tonight, or tomorrow night.” I get to my feet, sitting right in front of my table. I am face to face with them, and I can see the slight tremble in their knees. The hitch in their breathing.
Perfect.
There is a different kind of joy that comes with knowing that they still have some kind of fear towards me.
“And if I hear a word out of this room about Nova being moved, I will definitely fish out the person that does it. Understood?”
I look over at Jason for extra measure. His eye brows are c****d even higher than before, but that is the least thing that I care about at that point.
The two deltas finally make their way out of the office, and that is when Jason stops leaning by the chair, and he walks towards me..
“What are you doing?” He asks, and I narrow my eyes at him.
“Protecting my mate.”
“You're thinking as a mate. Not as Alpha. You're going to start using your pack members for your personal gain?” He asks, and I almost scoff.
“What do you mean?” I ask, and he quickly looks away.
“What if she's manipulating you?” He asks, and I almost laugh at the chances of that happening.
She isn't doing anything of that sort. I want her, and she wants me. We practically yearn for each other, considering how long it even takes to f*****g find each other.
But he doesn't have to know all that.
“She's not. She doesn't even want to leave.”
“She might be saying something else, but manipulating you subconsciously.”
I lean back slightly. “Where is this coming from?”
“I hear what the elders have to say. Her type has been washed off the earth. And you still think it's safe keeping her around?”
He is questioning my decisions. Something that he has never done before.
I almost laugh at the fact that the elders went ahead to tell him things.
“Why did they tell you?” I ask calmly. “They want you to talk me into handing her over?” I ask, and he doesn't deny. He looks away instead. I scoff.
“You can leave.”
Just as he is about to leave, another knock comes at the door. I ask the person to come in, and it is an omega that is practically dripping with sweat.
I get to my feet like my life depends on it.
“What happened?” I quickly ask.
“Another attack is being planned, Alpha. I managed to overhear it.”
My hands are balling into fists at that point. They are becoming a little too much.
“It will be handled. Call for a meeting with the guards,” I say calmly.
The omega nods, and the door is slammed shut again. That is when I notice that Jason is still standing in place like he is waiting for me to react.
“Something is attracting them to the pack,” he says calmly. “I'm sure you know very well what that is.”
For some reason, I can't push away the thought that he is telling the truth.
Attacks have barely ever come this hard and fast. And now, they are practically everywhere.
With that, Jason turns on his heel, and heads out of the office.
Somewhere in my chest, I can feel a pull. Anger. Rage. Fear.
I tried to ignore it at first, but it was getting harder. It was distracting. There was only one person that I could link those feelings to at that point.
Nova.
