CHAPTER 37

CHAPTER 37 NOVA'S POV Cassian is doing everything to make me feel better, but I don't know if it is even working. All I want to do is just rest. Everything to keep me away from Killian and his eyes. I can't help but feel him even in the doors. “You like reading, don't you?” Cassian suddenly asks, and I make myself get back in a sitting position. “Yes, I do,” I say, and he nods. “You haven't been to the pack library.” I c**k an eyebrow. “I didn't even know that the pack had a library.” He smirks. “Well, we do. You've been reluctant to go around the pack. The garden is there. And other things. I'm sure Nate will get to know more of the pack than you will.” I can't even help but roll my eyes at his teasing. “Are you going to show me the library or not?” I mutter, and he holds out his hand for me to take. I take his hand, and he pulls me to my feet. I slip my feet into my flip flops. For the first time in a while, my hands reach out for my camera. It is almost like I have been losing the motivation to even take pictures. But somewhere within me, I am getting that spark again. By the time I look up, Cassian has his eyes on me. He gives me a small smile, and I c**k an eyebrow. “What is it?” I ask, and he shakes his head. “Nothing. I'm just glad that you're finding a reason to take pictures again.” A smile is threatening to spill through my lips, and I shrug. “Well, maybe I just think that the library has a tendency to be very pretty. And I'm willing to turn it into something pretty.” Cassian's hold on my hand tightens in an assuring way. He leans down, placing a kiss on my lips. “I'm sure you'll like it.” With that, he pulls me along. There is something about the way he holds me, that tells me that he is scared. There is something bothering him. The library is right there in the house. As we walk down the hallways, Cassian opens one of the huge mahogany doors, pulling it towards him like it is nothing. My heart is thudding in my chest, as I wait for anything. I don't know what to expect when it comes to Cassian. His hands find mine again, and we descend a flight of stairs. I sling my camera against my body, and keep my free hand against the banister. We are barely at the last stair, when I see the library come into sight. There are rows upon rows of pretty books. My eyes are wide immediately. Even the books that I cannot bring myself to afford back in the city. Everything on my to be read list is staring back at me. I turn around to look at Cassian, and his eyes are fixed on me, like he is waiting for me to give some some kind of review on what I am looking for. I don't know what I am doing as I wrap my arms around him, in a hug. “Thank you,” I whisper. “Thank you for this.” He suddenly chuckles, bringing a hand to my face. “Are you crying?” he asks, and I try to shake my head. That is not even going well. My shoulders start to shake, and Cassian pulls me towards him. “I have been wanting this for the longest time,” I say, looking up at him. He has a small smile on his lips. “And I'm glad that I'm here. Here to fulfill your needs. I'm glad that I have the power to do it.” I am already in one of those few moments where I am more than emotional, and I am grateful for the things that are happening in the past few days. “Do you want your privacy then?” Cassian asks, tipping my chin and making me look at him. I give him a small nod. Fuck, I want to run my hands through the pages. The books are arranged according to the series, and in order of color. If that is not the most aesthetic thing ever, I do not know what else is going to take over. I am the one going on tiptoes this time, as I place my lips against Cassian's, softly. He is smiling by the time he pulls back. My eyes are fixed on his back, and that is when I remember that he does not even ask about what I went to do at the priestess' lair. Well, good. Because I am not ready for that conversation. I look at the ceiling, taking in the high rise ceiling, with extremely detailed designs. It is almost otherworldly. I quickly bring my camera out, taking the most aesthetic shots that I can take. I am bent over, taking pictures of one of the books when I feel a hand on my back. My heart is already racking in my chest, as I raise my head to see the person that touches me. I do not even hear the door slam. It definitely is not Cassian. “Killian?” I ask, and he smirks at me, c*****g his head to the side. If his hair is not a lighter shade, and if he does not have this deceptive look written all over him, then he might pass as Cassian's twin. “I like how you say my name,” he says calmly, and I take a step back. There is something about the air that is starting to close in. I do not want to believe that he is the reason behind it. It has to be hot outside. That is the only explanation I am going to accept. “I say your name like any other person,” I say, and he c***s an eyebrow, taking a step towards me. I quickly take one back, but he is quicker. And before I know it, he is circling around me. It is almost like he is the predator, and I am the prey. “You do not smell like the others,” he says, and I narrow my eyes at him. What does he think he is doing? Testing me? It does not matter. I do not like this man. I immediately tip my chin, and every feeling of fear that I have suddenly disappears. “I was not trying to,” I say, and he smiles. I am still standing in place, when he suddenly stands behind me. Everything in me wants to move away from this man. But once again, I cannot. I feel his hand move, but I do not know what he is doing, and I am not even sure that I want to know. But then, I turn just in time to see him about to touch my mark. I move away from his touch immediately. “What are you doing?” I ask. The door is suddenly pushed open, and Cassian walks in. He looks more than furious, and he slams Killian against one of the shelves. “What are you doing?” he growls, and Killian has a smirk on his face. Like he is not scared. Like he is not supposed to be bothered by whatever Cassian is trying to do. “I was just checking a few things on my sister-in-law. You're not going to let me do that? The funny thing is, she likes books. Just like me. You think we have things in common?” Blood drips out of Cassian's hands, and that is when I notice that he is digging his nails into his palm. “You are hurting yourself,” I cry out, but he is not even listening to me. His eyes are still fixed on Killian. “You do not get the right to study her,” he says, raising his voice slightly. Killian only smirks. “That is not what I see.”
