“What are you doing here James” Alice asked. James moved closer to her, he sat on the edge of her bed. “Answer me alice” he said. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Where am I? How did you know how to find me” Alice asked. “Your father called me. This is your new home. Now answer me. Did you meet someone else? Are you cheating on me? Who’s the man who dropped you off?” James was losing it. She might not be his mate but he loves her. They’ve been together for a long time now. He knows that they shared their first kiss and first of many other things together except the intimacy. James wanted to know what this man meant to her. How she met him? “He is a friend. I’m not cheating” her voice became small. She knew she did had cheated the moment she started thinking about him specially when he kissed her. James pulled her chin up. “Alice, I love you and I don’t want to lose you. I’m sorry for neglecting you, there’s a lot going on right now. Please tell me who he is. Have you done something with him? Be honest with me. We’ve always talked about everything, we don’t keep secrets from each other. How did you met him? How can you call him friend? Since when do you know him” James kept pushing for her to tell him everything. Alice felt guilty. She saw how desperate James was to know the truth. She didn’t want to tell him about the kiss. Very well she would just tell him how they met. “Remember that day you cancelled movie night, I had gone to the store to buy munchies and he was there. Then when I went for a walk, he passed by and offered me a ride.” Alice told him. She knew she sounded unbelievable since she wouldn’t just go in a strangers car but he doesn’t feel like a stranger. He’s not a stranger for her. She feels like she’s known him all her life. “ ha ha, really Alice how can you call him friend if you’ve met him twice? Why did you get into his car? Help me understand you” James angrily asked her. “James, I don’t know what else to tell you. This is the truth. I know how it sounds but I don’t see him as a stranger. It feels like I’ve known him forever.” Alice saw how this pained him. James walked out her bedroom. Alice got up brushed her teeth and went down stairs. She overheard the word “mate” coming from James. James and her father seemed like they were having an argument. The stopped as soon as they saw her.

“What’s going on?” Alice asked looking at both of them. “Darling, James was telling me about how much he can’t wait to marry you” her father stated. “No” she whispered. Apparently both James and her father heard her. They both approached her. “No? What do you mean no? I’ve spoken about this moment Alice? I don’t see why we should wait. Specially during this moment. I want to form a life with you. Share this new adventure with you. You’re in a new state, I want to explore with you” James holding her hand said all this. Alice pulled her hand away. She’s never been like this toward him. How did they hear her? She thought. Her father was angry but she could tell that his anger wasn’t towards her. “I need to think about it. Things have change James. There’s more to life than getting married at a young age. I’m confused please leave me alone while I decide what I want to do” Alice implored. She knew she didn’t want to marry. Marcus had changed her thinking. She didn’t want to marry James. “Please leave, I need to speak to my parents” she told James. James turned to see Joe, Joe nodded and James left. Before he hugged Alice and whispered to her “I’ve loved you since we were kids. Don’t forget that.” She felt an immediate wash of guilt. How can she do this to him? Why did she feel different in matter of two days!!! How is this possible. “Father, where are we? New state? How did we get out of Louisiana in a matter of a couple of hours? This house? How did you get a house over night?” Alice slammed her hands together facing her father. This is new, she had never reacted like this. He thought. “Alice, honey, due to work we had to move here. We are now in Calixto, California. It’s a quiet and tranquil place to live in. I was offered this job opportunity and I took it. We flew out here.” Lies! They had been driving for three days thinking where to go to. Calling family and friends to see which place was safer and farther to go. “I don’t remember flying father?” Alice asked him. “You slept the entire thing. You were in and out of it. You had a fever” he simply replied. This doesn’t sound right. It doesn’t sound how it happened. She new he was hiding something from her and James was involved.
