Against everyone's better judgment, my own included, I agreed to meet with Colt. I knew it was a bad idea but I was incredibly curious about what he had to say. Megan and Ashley were genuinely angry that I was gong which was understandable.
We met at a restaurant this time. It was a weekend which we mutually had off from work. It was a beautiful afternoon and I was almost sad I was missing the opportunity to spend it doing something other than wasting my time on Colt.
“Thank you for coming.” He said.
I stayed silent and stared at the man who had broken my heart months ago and never looked back.
“I can't apologize enough for what I did to you.” Colt said. “You were right about everything. I lead you on and made you think the relationship was something that for me, it wasn't. I told you I was something that I wasn't. Then I made it your fault when that came to a head. I really miss you, Taylor, and the time we spent together was some of the best that I've had. I'm just not ready for commitment and want to spend time with you more casually for now.”
“What does that even mean?” I said. I know my tone wasn't fantastic.
“I made you think I was this great guy and ready for a long term thing when in reality, I'm none of that. I'm young and still look and that's what I want to be. I just think you're a really great girl and I think my life would be a lot more fun if we could stay friends.” Colt said.
“I'm not sure what being friends with you entails at this point.” My voice was cold.
“You know, we could do this sometimes. Go to a bar for a drink. Talk about work, vent about life. I loved you as a friend and would love to rekindle that friendship.” He said.
“Yeah, cool, we can be friends. I'll catch you around.” I said. I threw a $20 on the table and walked out of the restaurant. I'd prepared for exactly this. Colt was not worth my time and I knew he was just after s*x until he found his next girl.
I walked home and gave Megan and Ashley a thumbs up from the busy street below. They were looking out the window for me and were desperate to hear about what Colt had to say. I gave them a recap of everything once I got upstairs and we got comfortable.
“No, he's a total f**k boy. You're completely right and I think you made the choice by walking out.” Ashley said.
“Yeah I didn't think I had it in you. It's really hard to look someone in the eye when you used to love them so much and turn them away when they're offering a piece of themselves back. It's really hard and I'm proud of you for knowing your worth.” Megan said.
“It is hard. I feel like when you really like, or love or whatever, someone as much as I did Colt. It's hard to look at him and realize what we had is gone, be so heart broken about it, finally get over it only to have him try to rope me back in. And it is tempting because what we had seemed so good at the time even though it ended so badly and for a long time I would have done anything to get him back. Now I'm getting the chance to have him back in my life and there's a part of me screaming that I should take it because I miss him and we had so much going for us, and then the other part knows it's all a trap.” I said.
“You need to know your worth. He is playing you and I'm so glad you see that.” Ashley said.
“Either way, Shane actually asked me to start working overtime. We're going to have meetings outside of work to play catch up and so we can do our normal job duties during the work day and then get the extra stuff done at night.
“Hey, maybe Shane's interested in you.” Megan suggested.
“He's cute.” Ashley agreed.
“Yeah but he could get fired, he's my boss.” I said.
“Don't be so boring.” Megan said.
