Pragmatically, I wasn’t completely confident on defeating the pirates by fighting the whole lot of them. They were just too many of them and there were only a dozen of us. Fighting them was a stupid decision, many innocents would die as a result so I resolved on the best judgement that I first thought of. I knew the pirates would be back and I wanted to make sure that when they got back, we weren’t as defenseless. My stratagem of making Gordon and Calabran combat just bought us time, enough to allow us to prepare I hoped.
