Chapter 2Helena picked at her eggs and buttered toast, too nervous about her impending trip to finish her breakfast. She had sent a wire to Henry letting him know she was on her way and couldn’t wait to see him. With her carpet bag bulging at the seams, she scanned her pocket watch—the only thing she had left of her father—and made her way to the meeting point. “It’s a lovely ship,” she told Joe who’d come for her promptly at seven a.m. and insisted on lugging her bag and the small wooden box that contained her collection of medical supplies upon his scrawny back.
