A dark day

Now that I have you all caught up. Yes, I was the reason for her passing but she knew the day was coming. I do not think she expected it so soon. It has been two years and I am now turning fifteen. I have had training and acquired more calming techniques. She had left everyone including me with specific instructions. We were to move on from everything that happened that day. Today on my birthday I take the throne as queen, no longer princess.  My coronation is the biggest celebration this kingdom will see in forty years. A lot of food, dancing and presents. Not that I really care as my birthday still feels dark since the incident but alas I shall move on. I took one last look at my chambers before I shut the door on my childhood and begin a new chapter as queen. “My lady.” A voice called out. “It is time to get ready for the celebration.” I sighed heavily and turned to her. “Sophie you do not need to call me that. We are the same age and friends. You do not need to be so formal.” I replied. Sophie just smiled and waved to me to follow her. She popped open the doors to my new chambers. Everything was changed.  The walls were painted my favorite colors of blue and pink with curtains to match. The bed had sheets of blue silk that caresses every curve of one's body. The furniture in the den of the chamber was oak with beautiful silver trays and wares for tea. I did not have any words to say how meaningful this was. As I was about to speak, Sophie shoved me toward the maidens to wash and dress me, as if I could not do it myself. They tugged and pulled, scrubbed and rinsed; before I knew it they were tossing on the clothing. I had picked out my dress the day before, It was more lovely than when I picked it out. The floor-length dress was light blue with embroidered silk at the bottom. A dark blue sash and shoulder sleeves caught my eye since there was something new to them. There was a new stitching of gold in them in lovely rose designs. I could not believe my life right now but something was still missing, the tear in my heart still pulsed through me. Pushing the thought away I let them dress me as I looked in the mirror.  Moments after Sophie walked up with something in her hand. She held it out for me to see. “Your mother had it made when you were born.” she said. I looked down to find a necklace; the necklace was a golden chain with a gold locket. On the outer side of the locket was the family crest of the sun with a crescent moon entwined. Etched at the bottom read; A spark can light a path or burn down a forest. I held back the tears as I took the locket and opened it. The inside was more wording etched in. It read; when you find the missing piece be careful as the power you seek is dangerous. What does it mean I thought. Could she be any more cryptic. I looked to Sophie, “Will you put it on me, please?” I said with a slight smile. She replied” Of course.” Sophie took the locket and put it around my neck, clasping it closed. I positioned it perfectly, put my head up high and said. “I am ready. After Sophie put my locket on, my hair was next, I hated when they did my hair. They always pulled it too hard and used way too much hairspray. As they got together everything for my hair I sat in my chair staring into the mirror. What will my life be to me and how far will I go in life as a queen. Sophie giggled as she looked at me, pulling myself from my thoughts I asked "what?". " I can not believe you are going to be a queen and you have not gotten rid of your silly expressions when you think. " She starts to curl my hair strand by strand. My hair is thick, coarse , very blonde and long, so long. Once it was curled she pinned up half, leaving some to hang in the front. I took one more look in the mirror as a princess to come back as queen. The maidens led me out to the ballroom where everyone was waiting. The trumpets sounded and all our guests turned to me. I began to walk down the stairway to the beginning of the steps to where they would promote me to queen. I stopped as the priest looked me over. I turned to face my guests and subjects as the crown was placed. “ Presenting Queen Karina Vivian Dawn.” The announcer's voice echoed, I cringed slightly as I hated my middle name but I still kept my head held high. Lets see what the journey brings me to next and what my sister that I vaguely remember might be doing, I thought to myself as I sat on my new satin throne.
