From the moment the physician set foot into Simon’s room, time seemed to stop. Sapiens sank in a corner in the dark hallway outside, living and reliving the past half hour of his life, Prince Shayne’s occasional remarks on Simon’s status the only thing breaking that vicious cycle. Annabelle stepped out of her room at some point and stood beside her father, who was still as a statue as he stood in the doorway to his son’s room.
