THE MEETING WITH RICHARD [EXTENDED]

EPISODE 18 The Blackwood estate gates opened at 9:58am. Two minutes early. Damien hated being late. In the car: Damien driving. Freya in passenger. June in back. No one talked. Just the sound of Nairobi traffic and June’s nervous breathing. "You okay, kiddo?" Freya asked, turning around. June nodded. Clutched the stuffed elephant. "What if father yells?" "He won’t," Damien said. "Not at you. Not ever again." Freya reached over. Squeezed Damien’s hand. He didn’t let go. --- #### THE STUDY Richard was already there. Standing by the window. Back to them. Older. Gray. But straighter than he’d been in years. " Dad," Damien said. Richard turned. His eyes went to June first. Then Freya. Then Damien. "Come in," he said. Voice rough. "Close the door." Clara closed it behind them. --- #### THE CONFESSION Richard didn’t sit. He walked to his desk. Opened a drawer. Pulled out a folder. Thick. "I’ve been collecting evidence for 2 years," he said. "Since the day I coughed blood into the sink and realized it wasn’t stress." He dropped the folder on the desk. Bank transfers. Photos. Medical reports. Recordings. Victoria’s voice on one of them: "Just drink it, darling. It’ll help you sleep." Damien’s jaw clenched. Freya covered her mouth. June looked away. "I knew," Richard said. "For a year I knew. But I was tired. Tired of being Blackwood. Tired of fighting. So I let her." "Why?" Damien asked. Voice barely a whisper. "Because I thought you hated me," Richard said. "Because I thought if I died, at least someone would be happy. Victoria would get the money. You’d get the company. June would be taken care of." He laughed. Bitter. "I was wrong about all of it." --- #### VICTORIA ARRIVES The doors burst open. Victoria. Red dress. Red lips. Red rage. "Richard, what is this?" she said. "I wasn’t invited to the family meeting?" She saw the folder. Saw Damien. Saw Freya holding June’s hand. And her mask slipped. "Oh," she said. "I see." "Sit down, Victoria," Richard said. "I don’t have to—" "SIT. DOWN." She sat. Crossed her legs. Tried to smile. "Is this about the girl? Because I told you, Richard, she’s a—" "Shut up," Damien said. Victoria blinked. "Excuse me?" "I said shut up," Damien repeated. "For 15 years you’ve talked. Today you listen." --- #### THE EVIDENCE Richard opened the folder. "Exhibit A: Bank transfers. 5 million to Isabella Cruz. 10 million to Dr. Mwangi for ‘special tea.’ 20 million to your sister in Dubai." Victoria laughed. "Those are gifts—" "Exhibit B: Medical report. Arsenic poisoning. Low dose. Daily. Symptoms match mine exactly." Victoria’s smile faltered. "Exhibit C: Audio." Richard pressed play. Victoria’s voice: `"Once he’s gone, we change the will. Everything to June. And we sell Blackwood Tech to my brother."` The room went silent. Victoria stood. "This is illegal! You recorded me without consent!" "In my own house," Richard said. "I can." --- #### ISABELLA The door opened again. Isabella. Pregnant. Scared. Victoria pointed. "You! You were supposed to—" "I was supposed to lie," Isabella said. "And I’m not anymore." She looked at Damien. "The baby isn’t yours. It’s mine and my ex’s. Victoria paid me to say it was yours." Damien didn’t react. He was looking at Victoria. "Anything else you want to lie about?" he asked. Victoria turned to Richard. Eyes wet. "Darling, I did it for us. For our family. You were going to die anyway. I was just... speeding things up." Richard stared at her. "Get out," he said. "What?" "Get. Out. Of. My. House." --- #### THE ARREST Security came in. "Ma’am," one said. "Don’t touch me!" Victoria screamed. She looked at June. "You ungrateful brat. After everything I did for you—" June stepped behind Freya. "I don’t want you," June said. Small voice. "Ever again." Victoria lunged. Damien caught her wrist. "Don’t," he said. Low. Deadly. "You’re done." They dragged her out. She was still screaming. "I built this! This is MY family! YOU’LL ALL REGRET THIS!" The door closed. Silence. --- #### THE WILL Richard sat. Finally. Looked exhausted. "New will," he said. Lawyer came in. Read it out. `50% to Damien Blackwood. 30% to June Blackwood, held in trust until 21. 10% to Freya Carter. 10% to Blackwood Children’s Foundation.` 0% to Victoria Hale. Freya gasped. "Mr. Blackwood, I can’t—" "You can," Richard said. "And you will. You saved my son. You saved my daughter You’re family now." He looked at Damien. "Son. I’m sorry. For all of it." Damien walked over. Knelt in front of his father. "I’m not mad," he said. "I’m just... glad you’re here." Richard pulled him into a hug. First hug in 20 years. June joined in. Then Freya. Four people. Broken. Holding each other together. --- #### LATER THAT NIGHT Back at Damien’s mansion. Dinner was pizza. On the floor. No table. No rules. June told jokes. Bad ones. Damien groaned. Freya laughed until she cried. After June was asleep, Damien and Freya went to the balcony. "Do you think she’ll come back?" Freya asked. "No," Damien said. "She’s going to prison. Fraud. Attempted murder. She’ll be gone for a long time." Freya nodded. "And now what?" "Now," Damien said, pulling her close. "We live. We love. We get married. And we never sign another contract again." He kissed her. Slow. Deep. No audience. No cameras. Just them. Below, Nairobi glittered. Above, the stars watched. And in the guest room, June slept with the stuffed elephant, safe for the first time in her life. No Victoria. No lies. Just family.
