Chapter 50: Eric’s Fight

1183 Words
"You led the grim reaper to us in the park. You hide behind us when we fight. And now you have the gall to want to untie the rope and make us fall as we’re climbing across it? I never thought there could be a living human as disgusting and deceitful as you.” Luther said this as he walked toward him. Eric's legs were trembling. HE stepped backward, afraid of what Luther might do. His headlight shined on Eric's pale face. Luther could see his pupils contracting. Eric couldn’t even speak, and he feared that Luther was able to detect his every thought since the start. He thought he was smart before, but Luther knew exactly what he planned to do all along. What if Luther decided to kill him? Eric stuttered as he tried to deny everything. His voice was shaky, "Luther, no. That’s not what’s going on here! I promise I’m not like that.” "Really? Because all I see is a liar trying to save his own skin." Eric didn’t know how to respond to this. Then, Luther said, "Don’t worry. I won't kill you." Eric was shocked, unsure why Luther would show him mercy. But Luther said something that shook him to his core. "If I killed you myself, my hands would be covered by your filth. I’ll let the monsters do it. They have no standards.” Eric looked to see where Luther was pointing now and saw that the metal tank had a crackdown in the middle. The entire water tank was being torn apart. Then a rotten zombie crawled out from the hole. Because the hole was too small, its flesh was torn by the sharp metal edges as it made its way out. But it didn't even seem to notice. It kept coming out with no hesitation. The zombie fell to the ground on all fours. Its arms were so badly wounded that they could see its bones poking out. Then it charged at Luther and Eric. As it was running, it suddenly disappeared. Eric instinctively clutched the weapon he had taken from Frank’s body. Luther looked out at the empty rooftop. He realized that he could see better through the rain. Although the water seemed to mask the smell of the zombie’s body, it seemed to enhance his powers of perception. His senses seemed to be heightened, allowing him to see and hear things around him more clearly. He could see where the rain wasn’t landing on the cement. Something was there. Luther could see exactly where the zombie stood as it was being manipulated by the Otyugh. But this time it did not attack them. It just stood in the rain and guarded the tank. Another zombie crawled out of the large water tank and was followed by more. One, two ... five. They crawled quickly, and five of them were out in the open in seconds. Through the hole in the tank, Luther could see several zombies' heads were moving in the tank like worms. Luther took his attention away from the tank and focused on the infected people. Through the rain, Luther could sense that three of them were on their left side and the other two were trying to corner them from the right. Eric stood in silence for a few seconds, unable to see the bodies around him. He lifted his weapon and rushed for the metal door that led inside. He wanted to get away before they came for him. But when Eric was only a few feet away from the door, a rotten corpse appeared in front of him. This rotten corpse blocked the big iron gate, then jump to Eric. Facing the horrifying rotten corpse, Eric didn’t want to resist. He jutted to the left and ran away before it could grab him. Before he could run very far, a black shadow flashed in front of him. Eric was knocked to the ground before he could see what it was. His weapon dropped from his hand and he felt a sharp pain in his leg. "Ah!" Eric screamed and looked up. A zombie crushed his foot. A green bubble protruded from the zombie's body. It resembled a disgusting tumor. An Otyugh popped its head from the bubble. Eric's leg was now bleeding badly and he clenched it to try and stop the bleeding. He didn’t know what to do now, and the blood kept spilling out and mixing with the rainwater on the ground. "I... I’m hurt! No, get away!” Eric screamed in horror after realized what had happened. He knew he must have been infected. There was nothing he could do to stop this. His eyes were bloodshot as he tried to reason through the pain. He didn't want to die like this. "Damn! Get the f**k away from me!" Eric swallowed the pain and kicked out his foot. He tried to pry his leg away from the infected monster on it. But he wasn’t strong enough. No matter how hard he tugged his leg, he couldn't free it. This only seemed to anger the Otyugh. The Otyugh shot its tongue onto Eric’s right thigh. When the tongue slipped off, it left a burn deep in his skin as boiling blood oozed out of it. Eric was not bleeding severely. HE screamed in agony as all the color drained from his face. He struggled to keep conscious. With a clatter, he saw a sharp weapon hit the floor beside him. He reached out his hand and grabbed it quickly. He glared at the zombie in anger and was ready to kill. "Go to hell." Eric struggled to stab it with the weapon. The Otyugh that was about to attack was late to react, and its body was impaled by the instrument. It screamed and slipped out of the hole it left in the corpse. The body fell to the ground now that there was nothing to take control over it. Both of Eric’s legs were deeply injured. He was physically exhausted and couldn’t move them. He could only crawl on the ground with his hands. Eric looked around for a moment. He was relieved when he didn’t see anything else coming after him. His thoughts landed back on Luther and his heart became full of hatred in wanting to blame him for everything that just happened. He looked up and saw that Luther was wrestling with several lizards and his mouth curled into a sneer. "Haha, you son of b***h! Give up! It’s better that you die here." Eric taunted him. He held up his weapon and crawled toward the corridor. Eric had no power to fight at all. He was too afraid to try, anyway. Eric didn't see the other lizard coming from the big water tank. It was completely invisible as it crawled towards him. ----- Luther was being attacked by four of the lizards. They were obscured by the darkness. He was losing his energy as he needed to use it to know where they were. The lizards were piloting the dead bodies now. Even though Luther could sense where the lizards were, he had to be ready to fight off the zombies they sent toward him. He knew that the only way to cause damage to the zombies was by killing the lizards first, so he had to hurry up and destroy them first.
