Chapter 46: Going Up

1177 Words
Luther went back to the room, closed the door, and lay down on the king-size bed. He didn’t want to think about anything else during this precious break time. He just wanted to close his eyes and relax. Two hours later, someone was knocking on the door from outside. Luther stretched, got up, and opened the door. It was Oliver. He smiled and said, "Ready, Luther?" "Um, let’s get ready to go." Luther went to the living room and noticed Elena was organizing her backpack. He hadn’t really noticed her before. He found that besides having a sexy body, Elena also had a beautiful face underneath the grime and blood it had collected. Luther turned to look at the gloomy sky outside their window. The weather outside had changed. The sun had disappeared, and it was cloudy again. Oliver stood by him and asked, “Luther, I think it might rain soon. Are we staying until the rain stops or should we just go?” Luther glanced at the thick dark clouds of the sky out of the window. Obviously, if it rained, it would come down very hard. It wouldn’t be a short rainfall. But Luther didn't have that much time. After all, Constance was still waiting for him. Luther replied, “Just get ready for us to go.” Seeing that Luther was in a hurry, Oliver asked curiously, “Luther, do you still have relatives in this town?” “Kind of.” Luther responded. “Who is she? A girlfriend?” Oliver smiled. Elena, who was packing her things, couldn't help but turn around curiously. Luther stared at Oliver indifferently. He spoke indifferently, “That’s one of your business.” “Uh...” Oliver felt awkward. He chuckled nervously and wasn’t sure how to respond. Elena on the side smiled and said, “Luther, you’re so funny! Oliver, leave the guy alone.” “I only asked because I was looking out for you!” Oliver raised an eyebrow and spoke, "I know what you guys did when we were asleep." Oliver walked over and tugged Elena's sleeve and said, "You got to take a bath. You had to have gotten your water from Luther. That’s a luxury the rest of us don’t get." Elena’s face turned red when he said this. She didn’t know what to say. Fortunately, Luther didn’t want to discuss this any further and prodded him, "We’ll go when you’re ready." Oliver was aware that they had an important task ahead of them. This short break was enough to restore his energy. Oliver kept up with Luther, "I wish we lived in a world where there was no doomsday. If we had met before all of this, we would be the best of friends already.” Luther was silent for a moment before replying slowly, "But it did happen, right? Right now, we should be focused on our reality before we think about what could have been.” He shut Oliver down so quickly, Oliver was a little embarrassed. Elena stepped forward and comforted him in a low voice, "It's okay. He just wants us to be more cautious. Let's go." Eric followed closely behind Luther. He was looking at him coldly as he thought to himself. You are so dense! The only reason we need you is because of your powers. But I’m going to kill you when all of this is over. I will. ----- There were still a few zombies in the building on their way up. None of them faced Luther and survived. Most of them were dead before they could make a sound. Elena’s stomach started to growl with hunger. The others could hear her and they realized they were hungry too. "Let me find something to eat." Luther didn't have any food on him. His bag had been emptied of food just like the others. They were hungry now and didn’t have anything to eat. There had to be some left over instant noodles and mineral water on the counter of one of the guest rooms. They found a few boxes of instant noodles scattered on the ground. But they had been doused and soaked with spattered blood, so they couldn’t eat any of it. However, there was a bottle of black tea on the ground. Although the outside of the bottle was a bit dirty, the seal was unbroken. Luther picked it up and tossed it to Elena, "Here, drink this." Elena blushed from the attention, but she was too smart to turn down the drink. She unscrewed the lid and took a sip. Luther left to search the other rooms and found three boxes of unsoiled instant noodles. Luther gave Elena and Oliver the other two instant noodles and left one for himself. He didn’t care about Eric. But Eric was angry at this and scolded him, "Why aren’t you giving me any food?" "Why?" Luther, who was searching for more food, looked at Eric and stood up. Luther was a lot taller than him. Eric felt intimidated and stepped back. Luther regarded Eric with contempt, replying, "I call the shots here. Now is there a problem?" Luther, who had a mild temper until now, spoke loudly and clenched his fists, shocking the others. Eric was afraid of what Luther might do to him. He glanced down at the sword at Luther’s hip, and his thoughts shot back to the way Luther so ruthlessly murdered every opponent in his path. Luther ignored Eric and continued to look for something to eat. A pack of instant noodles was not enough for him. Elena and Oliver wanted to offer Eric some food, but they decided against it after Luther stood up to him. Luther was the only reason any of them were still alive. After everything they had been through together, Elena felt that the best thing should cold do is obey his command. No matter what Luther did, Elena felt deep down that he had a good reason for it. She didn't need to question his motives. Eric did something that made Luther angry, and she knew she should regard Eric in the same way. But they were powerless compared to him, and they all knew it. What Luther said was right. He called the shots now. Eric was irritated. But he could only clench his fist and grit his teeth in silence. He began scavenging for food as well. Eric searched for a long time before he found a damp biscuit under a mattress. Luther and others kept eating noodles, but he had to ration this disgusting biscuit slowly. He was infuriated, but he didn’t dare speak up against Luther again. After eating, they continued upstairs. There were fewer zombies up there, probably because these presidential suites were much more expensive and very exclusive. "We’re on the eighth floor." They were finally at the top floor. Luther used his headlight to illuminate the staircase leading up to the rooftop. What Luther saw shocked him. On the walls of the top floor were bloody fingerprints like the ones they had seen on the second floor. There were so many of them. "The fingerprints again. Luther, what the hell is this?" Oliver frowned and asked him. Luther was also confused. He had never been in a situation like this before. He brushed his fingers against the wall and touched the blood on it. He brought his fingers up to his nose and sniffed it. It was the smell of rotten meat.
