Chapter 25: Zombie Brawl

1150 Words
Luther had a sword, so he didn’t need any other weapons. He looked at the other two who were clad in armor and nodded in approval. He was about to leave when he spotted a red object on the corner of a shelf. He pulled it out, and it caught the attention of the others. A nail gun. Luther picked up the nail gun and told them, "It's not very powerful, but I can make it work just fine." After Luther said this, he searched for ways to refashion the tool. There were all kinds of tools in the hardware store, and he was happy to have the proper resources. In less than an hour, the nail gun was loaded and stronger than before. Clark took the nail gun and regarded it with excitement. "Luther," he said, "I saw how good you are at fighting but you’re very practical too.” Luther was not flattered by Clark's praise. He explained, "I changed this nail gun to do two things. If you press the trigger, a 20 cm long steel nail will shoot out. It’s much longer than a nail and you can reload it and fire it as many times as you need to. After each use, you have to reload the steel spike into the barrel." At the same time, Luther held the nail gun against the wooden shelf and pulled the trigger. A 20cm steel spike suddenly shot out. With a dull thud, the steel pierced deeply into a wood shelf across the room. Clark and Constance heard the heavy crash. Even the heavy shelves were jolted by the impact. Their mouths hung open in shock. "That's pretty awesome," he said. "I'm sure it'll knock a zombie's head clean off." Luther, aware of the power behind this tool, simply continued, "The second thing I modified it to do Instead of demonstrating, Luther gave Clark the nail gun. Then he found another bag of nails for the nail gun and handed it to him. Luther turned to look at the battered shutter doors and said, "Okay, get your stuff together. We need to get out of here." "All right." Clark exclaimed, "Sakura, I’m on my way to save you." The shutter doors burst open. The afterglow of the sunset fell on their faces. They were greeted not only by the sunset but also by a small horde of starving infected people. The two dozen or so zombies became even more agitated when they saw the three of them. They roared in hunger and rushed forward. Luther stared at the zombies with cold eyes. He drew out his sword and stepped lightly. No zombie could get within two meters of him. Constance wasn't far behind him. A flame built up in her palm, the red light glowing on her cheek, and she grew stronger and more powerful. The fireball she threw exploded as soon as it hit a nearby zombie, causing it to spray blood and making its skin blister painfully. Clark was holding a spade shovel and attacked the zombies as they came. However, instead of attacking the zombie's head, he went for the neck. The zombie stumbled. But the attack didn't work. The zombie paused after being attacked, seemingly grabbing at its neck in pain. The next second, with its head barely hanging from its neck, it gave a fierce cry at Clark and leaped at him in fury. "Damn it, I'm not dead." Clark quickly backed away, but for a moment, his powers kicked in. He deftly dodged the attack and took advantage of the opportunity to attack it. This blow was harsh enough to s***h the zombie’s head wide open and exposing its pierced brain. After killing it, Clark got a little excited, but before he had time to react, another zombie was right behind him. "Damn it." He let out a confused scream and continued to brawl with the zombies. Constance looked at Luther and noticed that the zombie who was headed for Luther was being led away from him and focusing on Clark. Luther noticed Constance looking at him, too. After taking down a zombie, he held out his hand and made a quick gesture. Constance nodded knowingly and looked back at Luther. How did Clark learn to fight like this? Thinking this, Constance looked anxiously at Clark. She was surprised to find that Clark, who was initially flustered by one zombie, was now able to handle three at a time. Luther was right. Soon there were over two dozen corpses piled inside the store. Clark wiped the sweat from his face and looked down at the zombie he had killed. "Damn, I'm good," he smiled. Luther ignored him, saying, "Well, it's getting late. Let's find a place to rest and some food to eat." "You're just jealous," Clark chuckled. ----- As they walked through town, Luther looked around him, his brows furrowed. "I wonder why there aren’t a lot more of them out here," Constance spoke softly. Clark goofily said, "Wouldn't it be great if there were no zombies? Two blocks down the street, you left me to deal with them alone. And then there was that mutant cat, but you didn't help me. It's a good thing I wore armor, or else I would be looking down at you from heaven right now." "God, do you ever stop complaining? You’re this big man with superpowers but you won’t shut up for one minute!" Constance glared at him and turned to Luther. "Luther, you’re being quiet. What’s wrong?" Luther scanned an upstairs window as a shadowy figure swayed and smiled. "Let’s ask them." ----- Upstairs, in a large room, four men were sitting on the floor playing cards, three men watched them, and a slightly attractive woman was massaging a tattooed muscular man. Walking from the window, a young man with yellow hair knelt down beside the muscular man and said, "Horse, there are people downstairs. Survivors. We saw their clothes. They must have come from somewhere else." All the people playing cards and chatting with each other felt quiet and listened to Bruce, turning their eyes toward him. Horse half-opened his eyes, yawned, and asked lazily, "Survivors? How many?" "Three. Their backpacks are full, there's definitely food in them, and we don't have much food here, do we...? Of course," said Bruce, showing his yellow teeth with a crooked smile, "you could show yourself to them and they’d hand their supplies over to us in a heartbeat. They’d be begging to join us.” "All you do is talk, i***t. Use your head. It's getting dark, and the zombies are going to be more active. If we do something now, we're going to get ourselves killed."
