Elara had barely stepped into the room when Jones turned from the window. His jaw was tight and his hands were in his pockets. His eyes were dark and hard to read. She paused at the door and watched him. Jones looked at her for a long moment. “Where did you go this morning?” She blinked. “I went for a walk because I needed some air.” Jones let out a short laugh, the one that didn’t reach his eyes. “You always need air these days, don’t you?” Her heart skipped a beat. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He stepped closer. “I saw you at the lake with him.” Elara’s stomach dropped. “You were watching me?” “I didn’t have to,” Jones said sharply. “It was right there.
