Chapter 39: Staycation on a yacht

1905 Words
Lynn That Wednesday evening after work Mona and I were having a little chat on our way to the parking lot. I was filling her in on my little surprise visit to Kai's office and that family day out and she was updating me on who was dating who and any fun events that happened in my absence. Not so much. Arguably we were the spine of fun in the entire company. Everyone else seemed to be there to work. Mona and I were always up to some mischief even during the board meetings. Most of the time I'd be caught trying so hard not to laugh when she who cracked the joke will be looking as serious as Einstein in his laboratory. "Tomorrow is a holiday" Mona said as we both got in her car, she was dropping me off that day, one last time before dragging me to an automotive shop to get my own. "Yeah, Veterans Day. What will you be doing?" I asked as she drove us out of the company compound. "You made me so jealous. Am going to see my dad" she said taking a quick glance at me before focusing on the road, "what will you be doing?" That was the question on my mind too. With Mona busy perhaps Kai was the only option or maybe his cousin Ava. She seemed like someone we could hang out with and just talk get to know Kai better. "I'd say Kai but..." "You don't want to be too available. Hunnie, suffocate him as much as you can let him know you want him and he has no option but to want you as much" Her annoying therapist mind had already deciphered that I was getting attached. It was true I wanted him more and I wanted him to want me as much. Match my energy with actions of love and care, be obsessed with me. "Not a good idea, I'll probably be in my apartment eating and watching all alone" "That doesn't sound like a good idea either" "Don't worry big sis, I'll be fine" I mocked. She just laughed lightly. Am sure she was aware of the sarcasm in that statement and she took it as such. In a few months we had that sisterly bond and it kept getting better by the day. "Do you feel like I patronize you sometimes?" "Not in a bad way" "So I do patronize you?" "Not really, I mean negligible but in a good way that I should be paying for actually. You're really good at giving unsolicited advice" "Sorry, my nature. See you on Friday b***h" She said pulling over at my apartment gate. I grabbed my handbag and leaned in for a hug before leaving. "Thank you!" "And remember to buy a car or lease one of Kai's!" She shouted after me. That didn't come as a surprise. I just turned around and gave her the finger and she was kind enough to reply with an "I love you too" on a serious note I needed a car. I could afford two or even three. After exchanging pleasantries with the ladies at the reception I went ahead to my room, using the stairs as a form of exercise by the time I got to the door my body was a little sweaty and it needed a shower straight away. The cold water trickled down from my head down to my feet. I applied some fresh shampoo in my hair and soap on my body rubbing it with a soft sponge. When the shower went of my body felt light and I dried myself with a towel before walking out to my room. That's when my eyes saw a small wrapped gift that was definitely not there when I left for work that morning. "Where did this come from?" I asked out loud as though there was someone else in there with me. Or wait was there someone? Out of curiosity I took a few rounds in the living room and the kitchen then shut the front door before coming back to my room. Only one person would have done that. Kai. I opened the box and behold, a blue silk empire waist dress, a lovely handcrafted necklace with a matching bangle. Black pump shoes, my exact size and of course a note. "Hello love, sorry I can't be here to give you this gift but dress up and pack a few things for a day’s staycation. Arthur will pick you up at a half past six sharp. See you when you see me. Lots of love, Kai” My heart melted and I couldn't stop myself from hugging that note as if it were him. A quick glance at my phone it was a quarter to six. Anytime soon Arthur was going to knock on the door. I started working on my hair seated in front of the dressing mirror with a blow-dry, a comb and anti-dandruff cream. It took me ten minutes to straighten it and give it a glossy shine. After rummaging through the drawers came out with a pair of fresh panties, a night dress and socks with shorts and baggy T-shirt typical for Netflix and chill. All that together with other small things I shoved into my Lui vuton travel bag and tried on my dress. "Wow!" That was my reaction upon looking my perfect self in the mirror. It was a perfect fit, slightly below my knees, glued on my body like a second skin and extrapolating my sexy model figure that got men thirsting over me. Surely, I deserved to be on that billboard at the ski city ring road for another year and on all the other beauty products. And that eagerly expected knock came while I was still hypnotized by my image on the mirror. "Coming Arthur!" I shouted quickly grabbing my travel and hand bags. "Good evening mum" He said when the door opened in his face and I realized he was checking me out, not in a bad way but in an appreciative way...the way you look at something that's really beautiful but you can't have it. Sounds rude? Sorry. "Good evening Arthur been long. I missed you. Can we go?" "Ooh yeah!" He said sneaking back into reality, couldn't wait to see Kai's reaction too. My least expected response were those words he said to me while dozing off on the couch in his office, "I missed you too Lynn, you look beautiful in that dress he really knows your size" "He doesn't always have a good eye though. It's not bad to take credit for this" "Thank you" Everyone at the reception had that look of admiration when Arthur and I emerged, him carrying my bags while I walked freely. The ladies giggled and waved with the tips of their fingers sending airborne smooches, my response was just a smile and a wave. He kept the bags in the back right seat and let me slide in the back left seat with his huge hand by the lintel. He then shut the door and took the driver’s seat roaring the engine to life. "Ready to go?" He asked as we both strapped in our seatbelts. "Yes" I said confidently. It has been long since I was at Kai's place. The last time there we had dinner and it was beautiful but I never got a chance to explore all the art in his palatial home, the rooms and the garden, flowers and even swim in his pool again. All that was on my bucket list. "So? How was your trip?" "Great, mum and dad were really happy to see me. We had so much fun" "That's great news" he said almost sounding sarcastic. Something was definitely off with Arthur. Yes he was acting normal as usual but I had this weird feeling of bad energy almost like he was being pushed to be there driving me. The few hours of reading Mona's library after lunch were paying off. His tone and body language was not matching his words. "And what did you boys do in my absence?" "We had fun too. Especially Kai but that's his secret to tell" He said focused on the road. Secret? What secret was he talking about? So my gut was correct. There was something off with Arthur and I was sensing perhaps a fall out with Kai and he was just displacing his frustrations on me. Since it was Kai who introduced me to him and he said life was not the same without me, he missed me so much I was just going to ignore his bitchy guard. "Where the hell are we going Arthur?" I asked when I realized we were so not headed to Kai's place. He was better off not holding me hostage because there was paper spray in my bag pack. "What? You don't trust me?" "What's that supposed to mean? Kai trusts you and I trust Kai so I trust you!" "Them seat back and relax. Unless he told you the venue" No he didn't tell me the venue of the staycation. It was another surprise. But in my defense Arthur was the one acting weird so, me lashing at him was just repaying a favor. "Sorry" I mumbled after a long silence. "No offense taken. Am sure you thought we were going at his place. He has other plans, big plans" There it was again. The sarcasm in his voice. He was leading us to ocean side. The exact place we had our first date except this time there was no tent or a table for two, a tiki bar, nothing. To make matters worse we went past that venue and fear was setting in until he stopped in front of dock. "Here we are Lynn" He said getting out first. He opened the door for me and grabbed my bags leading the way to a ramp of a white yacht. Ooh my God! He kept getting better at surprising me. A staycation on a yacht! That was really mind-blowing. It made me put on hold all the fear and doubt of Arthur's erroneous behavior. Kai was standing at the entrance in a blue blazer white shirt, black trousers and matching blue loafers. A bottle of champagne and two glasses in his hands. "Welcome aboard baby, you make that dress look amazing on you" He said and made a salute sign at Arthur. "Wow! This is amazing" I said looking around the comfy seats, big TV, open kitchen and the night view outside everything was curated to perfection, the lights, ceiling, carpet, floor and it was almost impossible to realize we were floating in water. He gave me time to take in all that before he hugged me and kissed my lips holding me in his arms like I had always wanted. "That was perfecto" I mumbled as he led me to the living room. "Spanish huh? I don't know about you but my throat is a little dry, let's drink the champagne as we wait for dinner" "Okay, but before that" I said holding his arms into mine, our eyes met. "What?" Our lips met again this time me taking control. #Authors note Arthur’s behavior and Kai's Perfecto surprise, do you think it's finally happening? Kai is going to break up with Lynn?#Vote#
