A Good Heart

It only took Adam a few breaths to finish off all the men, who had lost the will to fight when he revealed his background. He took out a badge from his interspatial ring and tossed it on the corpse of the 'snake'. The badge was silver and had a cane protruding from its surface. "We should get moving it's too dangerous here," Adam said while vigilantly studying his surroundings. "Brother, how did you get out of there? Did you defeat the Silver Wolf by yourself? Did you make a breakthrough?" Helena spurted out one question after another. "Someone helped me." Adam answered truthfully, "And I don't know who it was, so it's no point asking." Helena closed her mouth after hearing Adam's reply. Hans was still sitting on the ground with a relieved smile on his face. "It's good that you are safe, I wouldn't have been able to show my face in front of aunt if something happened to you," Hans said in a bitter tone, but his expression told Adam that he was truly relieved by his survival. "What a touching moment this is." All three of them readied their weapons and pointed them in the direction where the voice came from. "I heard some noises and came here to ask for directions," Alon said while walking out from behind a tree with a smile and his hands over his head in surrender. "Who are you?" Adam asked while maintaining his guard. "Alon," Alon replied calmly. "Full name," Adam's tone turned grim when Alon did not reveal his last name. "I don't have something like that. I'm just Alon." Alon said as his expression got a little sharp. Adam flinched a little because of Alon's sharp gaze but still maintained his guard. 'He is bad news, I can't beat him.' Adam thought to himself. "Where are you headed to?" Before Adam could warn the other two, Helena walked closer to Alon and asked while checking him out. "To the nearest town with a teleportation array," Alon answered with a smile. "Oh! We are heading there too, you should come with us."Helena offered while smiling back. "Helena," Adam called out in a reprimanding tone. "Please let him come, he is totally my type." Helena hopped to Adam's side and whispered in his ear before again moving to Alon's side while winking at Adam. Adam sighed heavily and sheathed his sword while signaling Hans to do the same. "You can come with us till we reach the town," Adam said in an unfriendly tone. He was still wary of Alon's presence. "Thank you," Alon said sincerely. Adam cast a last glance at Alon before turning away. "We should set out right away, there will be many monsters coming here soon," Adam said while looking at the corpses. "Aren't you going to take their money and items? It's such a waste to leave them behind." Alon asked while looking at the corpses greedily. "Looting the dead is not something a righteous person should do."Adam let out while glaring at Alon. "Then please don't mind me," Alon said while helping himself to the rings and weapons of the deceased with a bright smile. Adam was glaring at Alon with threateningly red eyes. Helena and Hans were giggling at the side while watching Adam's reaction to Alon's action, earning them the same glare. "Let's get going then," Alon said cheerfully ignoring Adam's death glare. ****************************** They walked till it got really dark. "We will camp here for the night," Adam said commandingly. "Can't we keep moving?" Alon was surprised by Adam's command and rebutted. They had only been walking for like four hours, they didn't have to rest so frequently right? "You can go on by yourself then, we are too weak to fight the monsters at night," Adam replied in an annoyed tone. His sentence was not just a reply to Alon, but also a heads-up to the other two. "Okay, okay, I'll come back when you are ready to move," Alon said while waving his hand as he began departing the scene. "You should join us for dinner." Helena spurted, ignoring Adam. "Thank you miss, but I'll pass." Alon denied Helena's offer politely with a smile and walked away. "Despite how he acts, he is also vigilant of our presence," Adam said as he saw Alon disappear into the darkness. "It's because you were rude to him." Helena let out with a pout on her face. Adam could only sigh helplessly at Helena's comment. He could not fully deny that possibility, but still, he believed in his intuition. "Let her be, you know she always stays true to her heart right? That's why she is special." Hans walked up to Adam's side and said in a low voice. "Trust in her heart a bit, she trusted you too, despite your personality," Hans added with a smile while looking at the pouting Helena who had her back to them. Adam thought back to the time when he decided to join the 'snake's ' party, at that time she had warned him about something like them having bad hearts. "Transcendence of heart," Adam let out with a sigh, he had forgotten the most special aspect of Helena. "I'll put my trust in her this time. He is way stronger than me anyway, I was just being pathetic." Adam added while sighing helplessly. "What?" Hans cried out in shock. "I laid it out quite clearly before didn't I?" After looking at Helena for a moment he walked toward her and patted her head before shoving some meat in her mouth. "I'll apologize to him the first thing tomorrow." Adam let out while smiling gently at the glaring-pouting Helena. Hearing that, her expression brightened wonderfully, as she chewed the meat in her mouth. "I'm telling you, his heart is the best." Helena let out childishly. "I trust you," Adam said lovingly while patting her head.
