CHAPTER 8 Ashley rolled to the side, more strands of her rust-coloured hair breaking free of their bindings as she evaded the weapon. She struck the ground too hard, tucking as soon as she realised what was happening, but not before she felt the force of the floor. Even with her momentum, she hadn't moved quickly enough. The sting of the weapon burnt her back, bringing tears to her eyes. She struggled to her knees, turning to face her attacker who watched her with a bemused smirk.
