Maya sat in the small office's waiting room looking at the plain carpets. Her unblinking gaze formed all manner of three-dimensional shapes from the uneven shag until she was convinced the carpet was moving, or something within it was. She blinked several times, each time resetting the room back to its original state, only for the tired distortion to begin again. The carpet was starting to make her eyes burn, but it still took a great effort to pull her gaze up to the eggshell-coloured walls to the constantly cycling, digital health posters that had sprung to life the moment she entered. She glanced to the glass-panelled office door, seeing only her tired reflection looking back, and quickly averted her gaze before she had time to think about how exhausted she looked.
