Chapter 7 : Unraveling Control

1221 Words
The room felt stifling, the air too thick with unspoken words. Serena stood near the window, her fingers gripping the cold glass, as she tried to steady the rapid beat of her heart. The city lights below blurred into a sea of colors, yet her thoughts remained trapped in a storm that refused to quiet. Damien’s presence was undeniable, still looming in the background, and even though he was quiet, Serena could feel his eyes on her. She didn’t have to look back to know he was there. She could sense the tension building, the palpable hunger in the air, thick and consuming. She closed her eyes, her pulse quickening as his footsteps neared her. "Serena." His voice was low, smooth, but it carried an edge. He was standing just behind her now, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body, could almost taste the charge between them. She didn’t move. She couldn’t. The weight of his words from before, “You’re mine,” still hung in the air, wrapping around her like chains. She didn’t want to admit how much it affected her, how deeply the possessiveness in his tone stirred something raw inside of her. But she couldn't push him away. Not physically, not emotionally. And that was the problem. Damien reached out, his fingers brushing against her arm. The contact was subtle, but it made her skin burn where he touched her. He was careful, patient—waiting for her to look at him, to acknowledge the tension between them. But she refused to turn. “Serena…” His voice again, this time softer, but with a note of command buried in it. “Don’t shut me out.” She swallowed, her throat tight. She didn’t want this—didn’t want him so close, yet she did. She wanted the fire that was building between them, even if it scared her. She wanted to feel alive in a way that she hadn’t in years, to feel something other than the cold emptiness that had settled inside her. But there was too much at risk. Too much she couldn't let go of. “I told you to stay away,” she murmured, her voice strained. It was the first time she had spoken, and it came out weak, filled with contradiction. Damien didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stepped closer, his chest brushing against her back, his heat seeping through the thin fabric of her shirt. His breath hitched, but it was a silent struggle he kept hidden. “Stay away?” His voice was barely a whisper, his lips just a hair away from her ear. “Serena, you can’t run from me.” His words were a whisper of temptation, his body pressing against hers, urging her to turn toward him. She felt her resolve starting to crack, the walls she’d spent so long building up starting to weaken under the force of his proximity. Why couldn’t she stop herself? Her breath quickened. She felt his hand move to her waist, his fingers brushing against her skin in a way that made her stomach twist with longing. He wasn’t being rough—he never was—but there was something in his touch that spoke of control, of a hunger he wasn’t hiding anymore. Serena’s pulse raced, her mind a tangled mess of thoughts she didn’t want to face. Her body, however, betrayed her. Her breathing hitched, and she could feel the heat gathering in the pit of her stomach, threatening to consume her whole. Damien’s hand slid up her side, his fingers grazing the curve of her waist, making her entire body tighten with a mix of anticipation and reluctance. “You think you can outrun me, Serena?” His voice was darker now, a hint of a challenge in it. “You think you can push me away like you’ve pushed everyone else? I told you before, you’re mine.” Her lips parted, but no words came out. She was caught between wanting to push him away and the undeniable pull toward him. The conflict inside her was too much—too raw. His other hand reached up, gently cupping her chin, tilting her face toward his. “Don’t close yourself off from me,” he murmured, his eyes flickering with a mixture of hunger and something else—something softer that made her chest tighten. She didn't know what to say. How could she answer him when her body was screaming for something she wasn’t ready to admit? She couldn’t give in—not yet. Not when every inch of her screamed for him to take her, to claim her in ways she wasn’t sure she could recover from. His lips hovered over hers, his breath mingling with hers, the heat between them unbearable. She closed her eyes, her heart hammering in her chest. Damien’s mouth brushed against hers, just a fleeting touch, but it was enough to set her senses on fire. She couldn’t stop the soft sigh that escaped her lips. He seemed to take that as permission, and before she could pull away, his lips crashed against hers with a fervor that was impossible to resist. He kissed her like he owned her, like he was taking what was his. And for a moment, Serena couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. Her world narrowed to nothing but the feel of his mouth on hers, the fire that ignited every nerve in her body. His hands moved to her back, pulling her closer, until she could feel the hard, demanding length of him pressing against her. Her body responded without hesitation. Her hands found their way to his chest, exploring the hardness beneath his shirt, feeling the raw power that seemed to emanate from him. But still, a part of her hesitated. She couldn’t let go entirely. Not yet. Damien pulled back for a breath, his forehead resting against hers. They both gasped for air, their chests rising and falling in a synchrony that matched the frantic rhythm of their hearts. “Tell me you want this, Serena,” he whispered, his voice hoarse with desire. “Tell me you want me.” Serena’s breath caught in her throat, her body trembling with the storm of emotions she could no longer hold back. Her mind was a whirlwind, but her body had made its choice. Still, her lips stayed sealed. The words wouldn’t come. Damien's eyes darkened, his hand cupping the back of her head, pulling her face up to meet his gaze. “You don’t need to say it. I already know,” he said, his voice thick with both triumph and possessiveness. “You belong to me, Serena. And I’m not letting you go.” The air around them was thick with anticipation. Damien’s grip on her tightened, his body pressing against hers with undeniable force. But Serena couldn’t find the words. Couldn’t bring herself to admit the truth that had been burning inside her all along. Would she give in to the magnetic pull between them? Could she find a way to embrace the passion without losing herself in the process? And more importantly… was she ready to surrender completely to the dangerous man who seemed to know exactly what she needed—before she even did?
