The night was heavy with silence after the feast. Evelina slipped onto the palace balcony, the air cool against her flushed skin. She thought herself alone—until she sensed him. The Alpha King stood in the shadows, his eyes fixed on her. For once, his expression was not carved from stone. “You drive me to madness,” he admitted, his voice raw. “Every word you speak defies me, yet I cannot bear the thought of silence from your lips.” Her chest tightened. She had longed for honesty, yet now it frightened her. “Why tell me this?” He stepped closer, his hand braced against the marble beside her. “Because I am a wolf, Evelina. Fierce, ruthless, unyielding. But with you… I am something I do not recognize.” Her breath caught as his hand brushed hers, tentative, almost fragile. “You should not say such things,” she whispered, though her heart thundered. “And yet,” he confessed, eyes burning into hers, “I cannot stop. You are rebellion—and you are the only truth I crave.” For the first time, Evelina saw not the King, not the wolf, but the man beneath.
