Chapter 2

I wake up the next morning around 9am seeing that Maya wasn't sleeping next to me. I stand leaving the room walking downstairs to see Maya in the kitchen making us some breakfast.

"Good morning, I made us some breakfast."

I sit down at the counter "Thank you" She slides A plate in front of me and I begin eating.

"So what's the plans for today?" Maya asks while taking A bite of her food "Do you wanna go shopping for some clothes? cause you know school gonna be back in like A month, we're finally gonna be seniors."

"Yeah we could go shopping and right? it's gonna feel so different."

"Next thing you know we're graduating, moving out on our own, Meeting someone nice, falling in love, settling down, having kids, We're growing up fast."

"Yeah I know" I take A deep breath "I don't think i'm going to college though."

"Why not?"

"I'll think about it but for right now there's no reason for me to go."

"Okay."

My phone starts to ring and I see it's Dean "What could he want this early?" I answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey Gianna."

"He usually calls me baby so I knew something was up.

"Um hey, what are you doing calling me so early?"

"I have something to talk to you about and I thought I should tell you right now."

"What is it?"

"Well Gianna, I love you with all my heart but I just don't think this relationship can work out between us anymore, It's been too much going on in my personal life and you add onto it, i'm tired of all the arguments and toxicity with you, I just need A break from all of this."

I was shocked, I didn't know what to say "I'm toxic?" I scoff "Are you really gonna sit here and tell me i'm the toxic one?"

"Our relationship is toxic, both of us being together is toxic, we shouldn't be together."

"I made A bad mistake not trusting what my friends thought about you, you're no good at all and now I can finally see that, I don't want anything else to do with you." I hang the phone up.

"What happened?" Maya asks.

"Well you were right, I guess this is when you tell me you told me so" I stand as tears begin rolling down my face "I'm f*****g done with him." I walk off upstairs and she follows after me.

"Gianna don't cry, Just tell me what happened." She follows me into the room.

"He just called me and broke up with me" I cry while changing back into my clothes.

"What the f**k? He broke up with you over the phone, for no reason?"

"He told me he couldn't do it anymore, he called our relationship toxic and basically tried to call me Toxic when I haven't done anything at all to him, Everything argument we had he started or it was about something he did."

"Gianna just calm down, f**k him, I already told you he wasn't good for you and I knew something like this would happen. You should know by now that he's the problem, not you." Maya walks over to me pulling me into A hug as I begin crying into her shoulder.

"I know I just feel so stupid, I love him."

"I know but it'll get better." She rubs my back.

"I just need to get home, I need some time to think to myself." I push away slipping my shoes back on then grabs my bag and begins walking out the door.

"Gianna please just stay here." She walks after me.

"No, I have to go, I'll text you." I open the door walking out. I walk down the street with tears rolling down my face wiping them away slowly.

I really loved that boy and he just broke my heart like that, I can't believe I didn't trust what Maya told me about him, Instead I got screwed over in the end.

"hey neighbor" Justine yelled from across the street and waved. I rolled my eyes and ignored her, I didn't have time for that right now.

I ran inside and went straight upstairs to my room closing and locking the door behind me. I kick my shoes off then lays down covering my self up and bursts into tears again.

Adam knocks on my door "Gianna, are you okay?"

"I'm fine." I sniffle "I'm okay."

"It doesn't sound like it, it sounds like you're crying." He rattles with the knob "unlock the door."

"Please just leave me alone for A while."

I looked at the door and saw his shadow still standing there and then he finally walked away. I curled back up with my pillow and sniffed. ugh I felt so pathetic. why was I crying over someone who clearly didn't respect or care about me.

what bothered me the most was how he came to me to apologize and reassure me that what we have is real and then he goes and pulls this bullshit. I should've broke up with his ass when I had the chance.

I wiped away my tears on the pillow and then stood up to look out the window. Justine was still out there on the porch. Maybe I shouldn't have ignored her. I mean she didn't have anything to do with it.

I opened my door and went back downstairs to join my brother. he turned around and stared at me. "are you ok?"

"yeah, I just needed some time to myself. So uh what do you think about helping me make a cake for the new neighbors?"

"I thought you didn't care" he chuckled.

"yeah, well they deserve a proper welcome to the neighborhood so let's go to the supermarket"

I needed a distraction so this was perfect.

"Okay, I'll be waiting in the car."

"Let me just go put my sneakers on" I walk away from him upstairs to my room slipping my sneakers on then walks back downstairs and out the door locking it behind me. I walk towards his car getting inside then he drives off.

We get back from the supermarket, I decided to make brownies instead so I bought some brownie mix, eggs, butter, every ingredient I needed.

I get started right on the brownies with some help from Adam. "So I don't wanna bring it up again but you're my sister and I need to know that you're okay so what happened? Why were you crying upstairs earlier in your room?"

I sigh "Well Dean broke up with me."

"What? What for?"

"It was bullshit, he felt like our relationship wasn't working out and called it toxic so he broke up with me."

"You know what" He grabs his car keys "I'm gonna go see him"

"No, just leave it alone. Everyone was right about him, you, Maya, mom, and I didn't listen to nobody so this is my fault."

"He hurt your feelings, I can't just let that slide."

"Please Adam just leave it alone" I slip the brownie batter filled pan into the oven.

"I'll try my best to." Adam leaves walking off upstairs.

I wash my hands drying them off then walks into the living room turning the TV on sitting down on the couch. I watch me some Shameless as I wait for the brownies to finish cooking.

It's about 15 minutes later and I check on the brownies to see their finished so I let them sit out on the stove for A few minutes.

"Adam!" I call to him.

He comes downstairs "What?"

"The brownies are done so I'm gonna go take them over there."

"Okay" He walks into the kitchen and placed the brownies on a glass plate and covered them up with saran wrap. We both put our jackets on and then went across the street and knocked on their door.

A few seconds later a man came to the door.

"You must be Justines dad, we're your neighbors" I handed him the brownies with a smile on my face.

"Call me Will and thanks so much these look delicious"

Justine popped up behind him and took the plate. "I thought i smelled something amazing, thanks so much"

"Would you guys like to come in?"

I looked back at my brother and he just hunched his shoulders. I hope this wouldn't be weird.

"Sure that would be great"

We both walked inside and looked around. They only been here a day and their house already looked better than ours. They sure knew how to decorate.

"Wow this place looks amazing" I looked around amazed.

"You should see my room" Justine smirked.

I awkwardly laughed and then took a seat on the couch. They all joined us in the living room and took a seat. "So where are your parents at?" The mom asked us.

"Our mom is away on a business meeting and our dad is...dead" my brother said.

I watched as their faces dropped. "Oh my gosh we're so sorry we asked"

"No it's fine you didn't know" I forced a smile.

Bringing up my dad brought back memories that I tried so hard to keep locked up. Growing up I was a daddy's girl so when I found out that my dad had died it completely destroyed me. I remember crying for weeks. Just thinking about it now is making me want to just bawl my eyes out, but I don't want my neighbors to deal with my mood swings.

"So where did you guys move from?" I changed the subject.

"Oh we used to live in LA. That place was amazing and the weather was always beautiful but we needed a change" Will smiled at me.

"And we heard this place has one of the best schools. Thats what we need for our daughter."

"Yeah, our school is pretty great and if anything I'll be there to help her get settled. I'm sure she'll fit right in" I looked at Justine and she was just smiling at me.

"Yeah, I'll like that. And who knows maybe we'll become friends"

I didn't even notice her father left the room until he came back with a mouth full of brownies.

"These are so-" he did a chefs kiss before taking a big gulp of milk from his glass.

"Thanks" I chuckled. "Ok, so we have a lot of things to do today so we're gonna be going, but if you guys need anything you know where to find us" I gave them a hug before leaving and going back home.

As soon as I locked the door my brother turned and looked at me. "They didn't seem weird to you?"

"Not really" I kick my shoes off to the side "They seemed okay to me."

My phone starts ringing and I pull it out of my pocket to see Maya calling me "Hello?" I answer the call.

"Hey, are you okay? you ran out on me earlier."

"I'm not okay but I'm gonna be okay, I can't stay mad over this, I have to move on."

"Yeah you do, so are we still going shopping later on?"

"Yeah just let me wash up and get dressed."

"Okay, Text me when you're ready."

"Okay, Bye."

"Bye" Maya hangs up the phone.

"Where you headed to?"

"Going out with Maya somewhere, can I borrow your car?"

"Go ahead but don't speed, don't f**k up my car, don't -" I cut him off "I know, i'm not A little girl."

"Just saying" He begins walking off upstairs "Keys are on the counter"

I walk off upstairs to my room grabbing me some clothes then walks to the bathroom getting undressed then hops in. When i'm done washing up I get out drying off then gets dressed.

I text Maya "I'll be headed over in like 5 minutes." I leave the bathroom walking back to my room putting A new pair of socks and my slides on. I grab my phone slipping it into my pants pocket then walks over to the mirror taking my hair out and leaves it down.

I leave my room walking off downstairs grabbing the car keys and my house keys then leaves. As i'm leaving I see Justine sitting outside on the porch with A notebook in her hand.

Should I invite her to come with us? knowing she was the new girl I wanted to be nice to her, or maybe I just wanted to talk to her.

I take A deep breath before crossing the street walking towards her "Hey"

"Hey Gianna." She looks up at me with A smile.

"I just wanted to come over here and ask you if you wanted to come with me and A friend to go shopping? it's A good way for us to get to know each other better."

"I would love to, I just have to let my parents know" She stands walking into her house. A few moments later she comes out with her sweater on "Okay, let's go"

She follows me to the car as We both get inside then I drive off.
