Kira stared down at Carlo’s dead body, her thoughts in turmoil, churned by a confusing mixture of emotions. A large part of her was glad to find him dead, even though she was shocked by it. Her only regret was that now he wouldn’t be able to tell anyone what he knew about the Procurer.
I should have taken the time to question Rachel before rushing downstairs. She’s been Carlo’s puppet for so long, maybe he took her into his confidence.
Wait. Oh, God...
Her eyes widened as the full impact of her speculation hit her. “Rachel!” The name emerged as a horrified whisper.
Trevor and Nick were still staring at her in confusion.
“Are you OK, boss?” Trevor asked in a weak voice. He had turned away from the body and was visibly shaken.
