Arlenna's POV
“You need to step out there, darling. That’s how you’ll be seen,” Mother said as she stood behind me, fixing my hair in front of the mirror.
“Alpha Erik is in town,” she added, smoothing down a curl. “And you need him to see you. You’re a virgin!”
“Mother!” I gasped. “Is that all you really care about?”
“Why do you think I’ve been keeping you all these while? And don’t tell me you don’t want a good life for yourself!”
“This isn’t about me, Mother. This is about you—and you know it.”
“Shut up!” she hissed. “You know nothing of what you’re saying!”
I was tired of being pushed into a life I didn’t choose, into the arms of a man I didn’t know.
“What if Alpha Erik doesn’t want me?” I whispered. “What if… I don’t want him?”
“He wants you. He’s waiting for you. He’s a very powerful Alpha. Do you even know what that means?”
“But what if… my heart doesn’t want him?”
Mother laughed then. Not the kind of laughter that lifts a room.
“Heart?” she mocked. “You think my heart brought us here? Is that what you think?”
“Your heart takes you nowhere, you little brat. There is no such thing as love!”
“Just because you don’t believe in it,” I said quietly, “doesn’t mean it’s not true, Mother.”
“Get out there and meet Alpha Erik! He is waiting for you!” she barked, pointing toward the door like I was being sent off to battle.
“But what if he’s not my mate?” I whispered again.
“Then we’ve found you one, darling.”
And just like that, she walked me out of the room like I was a gift she was wrapping for someone else.
Mother was so thirsty for money and power that she would do anything—anything—to get it. Even marry off her own daughter.
We stepped outside just as Orion was about to leave.
“Oh, Orion,” Mother called, her voice suddenly sweet. “Kindly drop your sister off in town. She has a date.”
Orion looked at me, a slow frown forming on his face, but he didn’t say much.
“Oh…” was all he muttered before unlocking the car.
We didn’t speak as we got in. He drove quietly, with his eyes on the road, not even glancing my way. I didn't look at him too.
“So,” he finally said, breaking the silence, “you’re going to marry Alpha Erik?”
I looked out the window. “I didn’t say I was,” I replied.
“Then what does a date mean?”
“It’s just a date.”
He didn’t let it go. “You love him, don’t you?”
“I already told you,” I sighed, turning to look at him, “it’s just a date. And besides, it was all Mom’s idea, not mine.”
I saw how he gripped the steering wheel tighter. “And you looked this good just to go see him if you don’t love him?” he asked, glancing at my dress. “Are you planning on seducing him?”
“Orion?!” I gasped. “You have no right to question me like that! And besides… you should focus on Nimara!”
“I have every right to question you!” he snapped, speeding up.
“Why? Why?!” I shouted over the sound of the engine.
He didn’t answer.
“Tell me why you care so much, Orion?!” I yelled again.
“’Cause you’re my sister!” he finally shouted back.
“I’m not your sister!!” I snapped. “Why do you care so much, Orion?! Why are you suddenly jealous?!”
The car swerved violently, tires screeching, and then—
Crash.
The vehicle jerked forward, and our heads almost collided with the dashboard. He slammed on the brakes just in time.
We both sat there, breathless.
I didn’t wait. I unbuckled my seat belt and jumped out of the car with my heels crunching against the fallen leaves.
“Arlenna?! Arlenna!” Orion called behind me, stumbling out of the car.
But I didn’t stop.
“Hold on!!” he shouted again.
But I kept walking.
And then—the sky roared.
A heavy thunderstorm cracked above us like the heavens themselves were angry.
“Not now!” I cried, throwing my arms up.
The wind blew through my hair, and the rain began to fall in angry drops. “Not now!!”
I didn’t stop running, not even when the rain poured harder. My dress was already hugging my skin.
The wind, the strom, I didn't care.
“Arelenna! Stop! You’ll catch a cold!” Orion’s voice chased after me.
I didn’t turn around. “Not like you care!” I shouted back.
He called again, louder. “Arelenna!”
But I was done. I was heading straight to Erik, and nothing would stop me. Not even Orion.
Just when I thought I had gotten away, I felt his arms wrap around my waist.
I gasped, as my body fell back into his. He spun me around fast, and I found myself staring into his face with rain dripping from his hair.
“Arelenna!” he shouted, breathless.
We were both drenched
“You’re trembling,” he said, eyes searching my face.
“I have a date to catch.”
“Don’t go.”
I looked at him. “Why?”
He didn’t answer with words. Instead, he kissed me.
And it wasn’t just a kiss. It was wild. Hungry. Like we’d been holding back for years, and suddenly the dam broke.
I melted into him, my arms sliding around his neck. His hands were everywhere, in my hair, on my back, holding me close.
He pressed me against a tree and I just couldn't stop moaning.
My fingers tangled in his wet hair as he kissed my ear, my neck, trailing all the way down to my chest.
I arched into him when he found my breasts, squeezing them with one hand, while the other slipped down to grab my thigh, lifting it up against his hip.
“Orion,” I breathed, gasping.
“What are you doing to me Arelenna?!” He whispered.
His hands moved under my dress, inching their way up. I panicked for a second and grabbed his wrists.
He stopped and looked at me. “I know it’s your first time,” he said softly, water running down his face. “I’ll be gentle.”
I trusted him. My hands dropped, and I let him explore. His fingers found their way, and the moment they did, I moaned as my head fell back against the tree.
A tear slipped down my cheek, but it wasn’t from pain. It was too much. Too real.
He kissed the tear away and whispered, “You’re so beautiful.”
Then we fell to the ground, with the wet leaves sticking to our skin.
He spread my legs apart gently, and I saw it—his toy, the one I had seen before and found so intimidating.
It still scared me, but now I wanted to feel it.
“Ready?” he asked.
I nodded slowly.
He slid in, slowly. I screamed.
“Oh, f**k!” My nails dug into his shirt, gripping him tightly as he pushed in deeper.
He moved with care, but it still hurt. It stretched me in a way I’d never felt before, but the pain slowly turned into something else.
Something better. Something I couldn’t explain.
He grunted above me, his face buried in my neck as he moved, and I could feel his body trembling, like he was holding back.
I cried again. My hands wrapped around him, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.
He kept going, faster, deeper, until his body shuddered and I felt him release inside me.
He stayed there, on top of me, both of us panting, the rain still falling.
Then I felt it.
That pull.
It was like something invisible tied us together. I felt it in my chest, in my blood.
I looked up at him, and he looked down at me. We both felt it. My wolf felt it, and for the first time, I caught the scent, I could smell him.
Orion sniffed me too as he looked at me with shock.
“That's why you scented so familiar! You’re my mate!”
