Chapter 3

926 Words
This has to be a joke. Why was I kept in the Dark? My father knew of this. If I knew earlier I’d have planned my years to take over as quickly as possible. “Son, in the clause I could only tell you this once you reached thirty, you know how I withhold the rules. I didn’t know my time was coming so fast. Your mother wasn’t a Hamilton so she has absolutely nothing to lose. All she did was squander money. She didn’t have an ounce of care for the family's legacy after giving birth to you all. I believe when Leila is informed of this, it will be the opposite. Her father lost everything. His wife, all his daughters except her. He only has her. I laced my fingers together, The conversation throwing me off more than it should. My father continued. “ Financially when Thomas removed them from gaining anything from the company, Paul Hamilton had to survive on some real estate properties he had, and that’s why they survived these last twenty years. Leila would want to withhold her family's legacy. So I advise you now, don't bribe her. Make her understand what she is losing by not choosing you, son.” My father concluded. I sank back into my chair, my fist pressed tight against my knees. The words repeated in my head. I must reclaim the honour of Harrison Holdings by marrying Leila Hamilton. My chest tightened, Anger burned hot against the dull ache of disbelief. All these years… they kept me in the dark? I could have planned every move, every strategy, every negotiation. My mind raced. Thomas, that Bastard bribed more than half of the board. The Hamiltons stripped away everything, He left them surviving on scraps. Now, the Key to reclaiming the company rested with her. I ran a hand through my hair biting back a Curse. Part of me wanted to scream at my father for not telling me sooner, another part of me felt the weight of my fathers words crashing down. At this point it didn’t matter. Absolutely Nothing did. This was a battle of Legacy, it was a challenge I have to take and win. I have to marry her. My heart clenched at the thought. It wasn’t excitement, it was of pure dread of heavy responsibility of making her understand what is at stake… Before it’s too late. I left the room my father laid in and Vincent followed suit. I needed to process everything, I needed Leila to be on the same page as me. Vincent needed to speak with my Secretary Back at Aurelion Capital to ensure my office is locked till i am back, The head of Operation, Vivian was to take care till i am back, and i’ll be back with a wife. The thought of leila came back to me. As I stepped out of the Hospital for some fresh air I heard two voices arguing. I went close to a blue car and I saw Leila and her father still talking. “Father, why now? Why are you telling me when I got emotionally attached to Barry!” A chuckle left me, so she loves this man so much, called Barry. Even his name was a pain in the ass. He would have to look for another girl to waste her time, not the one of my wife. My eyes met her fathers own. His shoulders visibly relaxed as he pointed out to me. “Leila, Talk to this man and get to know him, he is your future Husband in a few days, I'd make sure of that.” Leila turned back and looked at me. Her eyes still bloodshot, her face void of any happiness and she came up to me. She looked up to me, I looked down at her, she barely reached my chest. “I’m having a private conversation with my father. I don't know you but I promise you, I'm not going to marry you, don't even think about asking me.” I put my hands in my pockets and leaned close towards her ear, “I will not ask you to Leila. You will marry me.” I stayed there for a second and I noticed her ears tinged pink. I thought it will take about two weeks for her to officially mine, I guess it will be closer than that. I looked down at her face, her eyes narrowed at me. “I don't care about any of this, not at the expense of my happiness,” “So you think you’re happy now?” I asked while I crossed my arms. Her breath hitched, and her nose scrunched up. I took out my Metal business Card and held it out to her. “Leila, the same way you are shocked about this is the same way I am also shocked about this. Our marriage was a way of fate telling us it has its own plans for us. With the way you’re acting, I'm sure you don't know the full picture. Once your father has explained everything to you. Call me with this number, don’t send a text,” I said, after handing over my business card to her. If I was to get married to this woman, we needed to ask each other the right questions, even though it would not matter because we had to be married but at least she needed to know some basic rules of living with me, James Harrison.
