Third person
This part of the story takes place the day before Lola's eighteenth birthday.
Lola climbed off of the bus and walked through the snow into school. She marched into her first class, minutes early and slumped her bag down beside her desk, throwing her hands up to her face. She did this for a minute or so, before taking out her maths book and placing it gently on the desk. She lay her pencil case neatly above it and her calculator beside it, making a clean, perfect desk for her to work on.
Her teacher, Miss Maxine, just laughed. "Oh Lola." She said, gently dabbing her eye with a cotton handkerchief, "you make me laugh." She said, trying not the laugh again. "You can be as stressed as a giraffe with no neck and still be organised and on time, how do you do it?" She asked, gently tapping her desk with her pencil.
Teachers were highly valued in the pack, and were well respected, it was a hard position to get into, but they were heavily paid and rewarded with generous term holidays, as it is such a stressful position, they are also given access to free private health care and therapy whenever it was deemed necessary.
"Balancing education, social outings and working makes it very easy to keep neat, even in a crisis." Lola said, before sighing as she read the board.
Test results day!
F*ck. Tests were the only real thing that stressed Lola out, her record of straight A's had never once been ruined, and the fear of the letter "B" had become such a big issue for her that she dedicated very precious sleeping time into studying and revising for tests. She turned down parties and even extra work shifts for her studies, and whilst it paid well, she was still left paranoid whenever she took a test.
Some teachers, like her science teacher, had resorted to marking hers on the day and emailing over her result, just to help keep her stress levels down. They all admired Lola, but her education to her was more important than her paying the monthly tuition.
Two girls marched into the room, trying to push past each other to get to their seats. "Hiiii Lola!" Both girls squealed.
The girls, Jessica and Daniella, had become extremely close to Lola after she helped them study for a recent round of mock exams, in which they were restless over, and once realising that Lola had not only helped them pass, but helped them get a few A's too, they were ecstatic and tried to re-pay Lola for all of her help. They even came into the cafe and helped out, even though they weren't getting paid, just to say an extra Thank you to Lola.
"Good morning girls." The teacher said sweetly to them, placing two sheets of paper on each desk.
The girls pouted a little. "Another exam?" They asked in sync, before turning over the page, they both squealed in joy. "EEEEK!" Was the only thing that could be heard for miles. "We both got A's!" They said, once again in sync.
Lola gave them both a gentle smile. "I'm so happy for you girls!" She said innocently, looking down at the A* that was on her desk. She turned her paper back over and then lay her head on the desk. "What are we doing today?" She asked softly.
"Sine and Cosine." The teacher said, looking at Lola. "But considering you're already very familiar, I could give you some harder work?"
"I was wondering if I could maybe just sleep? I was up late panick-... studying." Lola said, sheepishly grinning.
The teacher nodded. "Of course." And not much more was spoken between the two.
As more students began piling into the classroom, they all brushed the test results aside, and focused on trying to get their head around the boring cr*p that was on the whiteboard.
Except for one boy.
Harry.
Harry was almost like the school jock, if that position didn't belong to the future Alpha triplets. Harry was a bully, a crude, disgraceful boy who teased innocent girls, beat up innocent boys and pushed his way through school with mommy's money and bribery.
He sent plenty of boys to the hospital, and plenty of girls to therapy, and yet the school refused to kick him out, or even suspend him for a week. The worst punishment he had ever received was a fail in a class, which he had to re-sit the very next year, that class was music. Music of all classes to fail him on. The only reason Harry received all of this special treatment was because of his mommy's generous donations to the school, hundreds, if not thousands of dollars came from her each month, just to keep her son in education until he could go on and torture the next poor soul who has to put up with him.
Harry strolled into the class and threw a scrunched up sheet of paper onto Lola's back. "Wake up sleepy head! It's your favourite class, nerd!" He said, before ripping the headband from her head and snapping it, letting her blonde locks fall in her face, covering her eyes until she cleared them out of her cones of vision.
"My headband!" Lola cried out, trying to salvage it, much to her dismay, it had shattered into thousands of pieces beneath her feat. Lola pouted and glared up at Harry. "Those are expensive!" She said, trying not to let even a single tear drop from her hazel eyes.
"Clearly." Harry rolled his eyes and turned back away from her. "They must have been so expensive." Harry elongated the so to sound dramatic in front of her, and sarcastic. "Where did you get them? The pound store?" A few people in the class snickered at that, and Lola just sighed. "Whatever..." she mumbled, and Harry chuckled. "What was that sweet-cheeks, gonna have to speak up." He teased.
"Whatever, Harry." Lola rolled her eyes and lay her head back on the desk, wanting the day to be over.
Lola was a very shy girl, she didn't have many friends, and most people tended to ignore her existence. Apart from a few boys. The football players. They despised Lola, for a petty reason indeed.
Lola was the top of every class, and had been offered many scholarships in private schools, which every football boy had been rejected from, and whilst Lola rejected them from a fear of leaving everything behind, the boys hated her for wasting an opportunity which could have been theirs. So in a desperate effort to make her life hell, they decided to take it out on Lola.
Harry flipped a pair of scissors around his fingers, and then slammed them down into his desk, cracking the splinted wood slightly. "Is Lola sulking?" He asked with a pouty face. "Is the little Lola crying?" He asked, before sniggering. Lola just shook her head and sighed deeply. "F*ck off Harry." She muttered, covering her head with a book.
"What did you just say to me, you little b*tch?" Harry stood up and walked over to her desk and grabbed her book, slamming it back down onto her head with a thud.
Lola whimpered a little at the pain, and Harry was just about to do it again, before being shoved back by Jessica and Daniella. "Didn't you hear her? She said F*ck off." Daniella snapped, before taking Lola's book and putting it back onto her desk.
Lola muttered her a small thank you before looking back down at her desk, she heard Harry's heavy footsteps move away from her, before she dropped her shoulders and relaxed. At least all Lola had to do was get through the day, and then she could relax tomorrow, on her birthday.
