CHAPTER 3
There was silence in the hall, and only the sound of one of the Alphas could be heard. It was Alpha Claudia of the Bright Dusk pack who spoke and listed out Lucas’s crimes.
“… according to what we know and learned, you are guilty of causing several mishaps in this kingdom, such as the death of the former Supreme Alpha, Fredrick, the death of many Betas, organizing various protests to overthrow the past government and you made things so hard for the people that most of the people hated you and gave you the name the ‘Tyrant Alpha’…” she stated but was interrupted by Lucas.
“Uh uh… that last one isn’t part of it.” He refuted. Claudia glanced at him from the book she was reading out from.
“I beg your pardon…”
“I said that last part cant be included.” He repeated with a smile on his face. Claudia leaned back and folded her arms.
“And why is that so?” She questioned.
“There have been tyrants among the past rulers of this kingdom. Example is…” he was about to start stating names of some past Alphas but was rudely interrupted by Alpha Sylvester, the Alpha of the Crescent moon pack and an old man with white hair all through. The white hair didn’t really display his old age, but that was his natural hair. He was also old, about a century and half years old.
“We are not gathered here to hear you list out the tyrannical Alphas of the past. We are here to pass a judgment onto you for your hideous crimes.” The old man claimed with a deep and stern voice, strong enough to send shivers down the spine of his enemies.
As strong as his voice was, Lucas was not in the least scared. He only smiled and looked at the old man.
“Oh really? And what crimes are those?” He asked jokingly. The rest of the council frowned. Lucas was known to always be serious, unless something exciting happened. However, he seemed to be cracking little immature jokes and it annoyed the council.
“Don’t play games with us, Lucas.” Owen blurted with anger. Lucas who was laughing suddenly turned serious and gave Owen a deathly stare. Owen returned the gesture until one of them gave up. Staring at the other party for too long was going to be extremely awkward.
“You’re all just petty hypocrites. All I’ve ever done is to make this kingdom a better place to live in. The old systems were all based on farce. I wanted to change that system—” Lucas defended himself but was met with yet another opinion from another Alpha.
“And you thought that killing the members of parliament, as well as your mentor, Alpha Salador, was going to help you achieve your goals?” A stern but feminine voice rang in the entire council chamber. It was from Alpha Sadie, Alpha of the Sterling Hide Pack. She was infuriated by Lucas’s excuse and she had the urge to put an end to him on the spot. However, Lucas wasn’t that weak.
The latter was getting annoyed and his expression turned ugly.
“You might not know, but when it came to some things, drastic measures had to be taken. Do you think I willingly killed my mentor out of pleasure or do you think I killed my mentor and derived joy from it.” He growled and his beastly features were starting to emerge, “I did it because I had absolutely no choice. And you sit there comfortably telling me what I did and didn’t.”
“And you think that is enough an excuse for your crimes? If I remember clearly, the Kingdom was successful and thriving. However, things began to turn upside down when you took the throne by killing your mentor. Later on, you were overthrown by your own subjects and was cast away from the kingdom, only for you to come back to murder the Alpha that was chosen after you in cold blood, after several attempts at shaking his rule. You should be made to go throw eternal suffering for how much you e tormented this kingdom.” Sadie judged while Lucas growled at her. His eyes turned bright golden color and he bared his sharp teeth at her.
“And who the hell are you to pass a judgment on me? You dare to speak to me in that manner?!” He growled and Sadie did the same but was stopped by Jayden.
“
“That is enough.” He yelled and faced Sadie, “We are here to pass a judgment on the accused, not to annoy them and make them annoy us.” Jayden interfered and looked at Lucas with a stern face, “You might have had your reasons for doing what you did in the past, but it still doesn’t cover the fact that you have killed people you shouldn’t have. Although your sentence should be death by silver stabbing, your sentence shall be reduced and you shall be given something lighter–I Jayden, Alpha of the Blood Moon pack and Supreme Alpha of this kingdom thereby sentence you to spend the rest of your life in the dungeons, where you shall never see the light of the Moon, nor the Sun. This trial has thereby been dismissed.” Jayden said and the judgment was passed.
Lucas’s head dropped and he suddenly had a very solemn look on his eyes. His beastly features had already disappeared and he was back to normal. But that was in the flesh. He was having complicated feelings and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He and Jayden were once friends, but after the whole thing with their mentor, Alpha Salador, they suddenly became distant. Although Jayden still had friendly feelings towards him, he couldn’t ignore his responsibilities as the Alpha supreme of the Blood Moon kingdom.
It was because of this little feeling which he held for Lucas, that he couldn’t bear to have his friend executed.
Two Alphas came to walk Lucas away and he cooperated with them and was about to walk away but stopped mid-way.
“Know the kind of people you surround yourself with, Jayden. Don’t become the monster our teacher became. For too much power blinds a man.” He forewarned before leaving the chamber. Jayden’s face turned serious, as he was well aware of the various criticisms he was going to receive for not executing the rogue Alpha, Lucas. At the same time, he didn’t ignore Lucas’s advice. He went into deep thought as he watched Lucas’s silhouette disappear through the hall.
“Hmm.” He hummed as his face turned serious. ‘I’ll still need to keep a good eye on him…’ He thought to himself.
