CHAPTER 5
Aurora bowed slightly as she fidgeted. She was nervous to the core and she tried to hide her face from the piercing eyes of the Alphas around. She bit the side of her lip nervously and tried not to make too much eye contact with the Alphas. She was only a Beta after all.
Jayden noticed this and smiled. This smile only lasted a second before turning serious as he turned to the other Alphas,
“Leave us.” He ordered with a strong tone. The Alphas nodded and they left the large office of the Alpha Supreme, some of which glanced at Aurora before leaving. After closing the door behind them, Jayden sighed and massaged his temples.
“Being the Alpha supreme isn’t an easy task at all, especially now that we’ve got one big bad wolf on our plate.” He said with a pitiable tone before smiling and looking at Aurora. The latter suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and blushed.
“You’re a shy one, aren’t you?” He teased me. Aurora certainly didn’t like this very much and she shrunk back a little. Noticing this, Jayden stopped and waved his hands.
“Don’t worry, you can communicate freely with me.” He said, trying to ease up the atmosphere. Aurora felt slightly better but still couldn’t bring herself to be careless in front of their Alpha. Jayden cleared his throat and went straight to business.
“Ahem, speaking of bad wolves, I’ve got a mission for you, Aurora.” He claimed. Aurora’s eyes suddenly widened. She placed her index finger on her chest to confirm if it was her the Alpha was referring to.
(Me?) she asked with sign language, which Jayden seemed to understand clearly.
“Yes you.” He answered. Aurora was perplexed. She was aware of her combat abilities and she knew that she was only as strong as an average Beta. Sending her on a combat mission without any training whatsoever was like suicide. Except for the occasional playing and hunting, she really wasn’t that good a hunter or a fighter.
(I… I’m sorry, Alpha. But my abilities aren’t all that good.) she gestured to him with her sign language. Alpha Jayden seemed to have noticed the look on her face and shook his head.
“Don’t worry, Aurora. It’s not a combat needed abilities. It’s a simple, yet complicated text.” He said and paced around her, “I normally would have chosen someone else’s but then I realized that you were actually the best candidate for this mission. Not even any of my Alphas might perform as well as I suspect you will.” He commended. He intended to win Aurora’s heart and commend her as much as possible as well as set expectations for her. This way, she would stay on her toes and do a perfect job. This was a good way to make people pressured and do something right.
(Me? But I’m just a voiceless wolf and I would be able to serve you better in the kitchen.) she gestured to him and ran herself down. Jayden sighed and walked to her front before holding her shoulder.
“I know you can do this, Aurora. I believe in you. You might’ve faced a lot of discrimination when you were raised but now, put that behind you, as I, the Alpha supreme of the Blood Moon pack is encouraging you and giving you a direct order.” He blurted. Aurora’s eyes met with his and she felt slightly embarrassed as her cheeks turned red. After thinking it through, she smiled and nodded vigorously in acceptance.
She had always wanted to be under the Alpha and do missions for him. Unfortunately, when she signed up as a child, she was rejected due to her ‘dumbness’. Not just that, her performance was also average so she was rejected. After that, she was chosen to cook, since her cooking skills were quite good, courtesy of her mother.
“Great. Your contribution shall be recorded.” Jayden said and sat back down on his seat while Aurora stood.
“You see…” he said as he briefed her on the mission. At this point, Aurora’s mind quickly stabilized and she removed all thoughts from her mind, “The traitor you saw earlier today happened to be close to me once. I know him all too well and I know what he’s capable of. With all that thick security we’ve used to lock him down, he will always find ways to escape…” He explained. Aurora however, was shocked.
Of all the missions she expected, this was the last thing she expected. ‘Is the moon goddess doing this on purpose or is this a coincidence? Why did it have to be him!’ She exclaimed in her mind. She wondered what mission she would be given by the Supreme Alpha at this time.
“…now this is where you come in.” He said and walked to the front of his desk and went on with his explanation, “You being one who can’t talk has made you have to bear to listen to people more than speak. Therefore, I suspect you are intelligent and a good listener. Due to this, I need you to serve as the one to always deliver food to him all the time, earn his trust, once he plans to escape, he’ll definitely tell you about it.” He explained. Aurora now got the gist of the plan but she was feeling a bit confused.
(If I am correct… you want me to extract information of his future plans from him and inform you about it before it happens?) she gestured and Jayden nodded in response. She contemplated deeply in her mind but after thinking about it, she made a decision.
She had a greater zeal to follow orders. Whatever strange feeling she had for this rogue Alpha could be shoved aside.
(I shall do my best, Alpha. You will be my command.) she gestured with a bow. Jayden smiled and waved.
“There is no need for that much formality though.” He said with a cheerful face. Aurora bowed and was about to leave when Jayden called her back,
“Aurora…” he called. His voice was calm but then scary. The aura emitted from the voice was a dangerous one and it caused Aurora to get scared. She slowly turned back to look at the fearful Alpha. “Meanwhile… I must warn you. That traitor is a very cunning wolf. He can get into your head if you’re not careful. He can pit you against us and when he does, I won’t hesitate to do what is required of me.” He claimed coldly, sending shivers down Aurora’s spine.
She smiled nervously and nodded before leaving after she got dismissed. She closed the door behind her and finally breathed. ‘Alpha supreme is so strong. He exudes a lot of pressure. I’d better not fail him, I don’t want a man like that being my enemy.’ She thought to herself as she held her hand on her chest and exhaled.
