HAYLEY
The drive to Taylor’s estate took longer than I expected. I was thinking it would be around an hour but it was already getting a bit close to three hours and with Thane in the car, it was unbearable because the both of them wouldn't stop kissing and touching each other. Not to even talk about the inside jokes.
Suddenly, I felt like an outsider and was already doubting my choice on following her back home. She told me she hadn't been home for a long time and I wondered why that had been but since she wasn't willing to share it with me, I let her have her secrets.
I had mine too. Now wasn't the time to share them as well. My ringing tone cut through the air and the couple stopped giggling, turning to look at me through the front mirror. I stared back at them before dropping my gaze to look at the caller ID.
A snort slipped out of me before I could stop it.
Cole. His calls has become so persistent. In fact, thinking back now, he has not called me this many times when we were dating. Ridiculous, right?
I turned my phone over, looking out through the window, not before seeing pity flash across Thane and Taylor’s face.
“We will be arriving very soon,” Taylor informed us after some minutes, a frown etched on her face as she stared at her phone. I noticed Thane’s grip on the steering wheel tightened.
Was he nervous to meet her father?
Apprehension cracked in the air and I shifted uncomfortably. I leaned forward from the back seat.
“So, Taylor, tell me about your family. Your dad and all of that.” I said, hoping to fill the space with conversation but it seemed it only fueled the anxiety even more. Taylor didn't know that I could read people really well.
I could see that if she had her way, she would not be going home at all. “Well, our estate is just like the typical one. And my dad, let us say he is quite overprotective of me since I am the only one he has.” She said, offering me a tight smile as she flicked her gaze to Thane who looked away.
I narrowed my eyes at that exchange and relaxed in my seat. Maybe I would have find out what exactly they were hiding very soon.
We soon got to the entrance of a huge golden gate and my lips parted as I watched it slide open and we drove inside. Bulky men stood as they watched us move inside. Getting to the garage, Thane turned off the car’s engine and I was expecting that we stepped out of the car immediately but they both paused, resting their heads on the headrest.
“Is everything alright?” I asked, glancing between them. Taylor shook her head.
“It is going to be, I think?” She grimaced before Thane unlocked the doors for us to step out. The cool breeze blew across my face and I put my hair behind my ears. This place looked so different. Like people in their own world.
Taylor’s father was immensely wealthy if all of these belonged him alone. Following the couple who seemed tense, I fed my eyes with the beautiful view of the estate. Right now, looking at the scenery, I do not believe that this was just an estate owned by one man. There had to be people who lived here, right?
We paused at the entrance of the main house and Thane intertwined Taylor’s hand with his as we moved closer. Entering through the big oak door, Taylor glanced around as if she was sneaking into the place.
“Miss Taylor, is that you?” A young lady in maid outfit gasped with widened eyes.
Taylor smiled at her, placing her finger to her lips to signal her into quietness. She pursed her lips and nodded. She led Thane to the stairs ahead of us and all I did was follow. Maybe she had forgotten that I was with her and she wasn't supposed to be protecting only Thane from whatever obstacle was waiting for them. Just as we took a step on the stairs, a throat got cleared from close by and in the blink of eye, Thane was pulled away from Taylor.
A sharp cry filled with fear spilled out of her as we both turned around quickly to see a man launch a brisk punch into Thane’s belly.
“No!” She rushed toward Thane who had spilled some blood from his mouth as he gripped his belly, groaning in pain. I glanced up at man who had punched him and I was filled with indignation against him.
Did he want to kill him? Or what exactly was going on?
Confusion set in between my brows as I watched the drama that ensued. Was this the reason they seemed apprehensive?
“Finally home, princess?” A voice that sounded all too familiar permeated through the air. Tension held the air captive as steps echoed through the living room.
Taylor twisted around, her eyes hardened with deep pain and raw hate as she sized up the man who had stepped out. “Dad.” She gritted out, her fist clenched tight. She trembled like she was trying to hold herself back from doing something.
I twirled around to see her father finally and immediately, I froze in place. My muscles locked into place. My eyes went wide, my brows knotting as I took the man who stood before me, this time he had glasses on and he looked more sexy than the night we had met. What was he doing here?
Wait! Dad?
He was Taylor’s dad! The man whom I had shared that special night with was my best friend’s dad?
The f*****g hell?
He flicked his gaze briefly toward me and looked away but he paused as well, dragging his eyes back to me.
Immediately, the intense night we shared replayed in my mind and crimson red coated my cheeks.
“I see you've brought visitors to my house.”
Wait, what?
Me? Did he just call me a visitor?
