Mayu then looked at him, as though she had heard his thoughts. She was talking to Raphael, but it left the impression she was talking mostly to Dante. She gave him meaningful glances, ones she desperately wanted him to understand. Unfortunately for her, all Dante saw was suspicion.
“Take your time,” she said and walked out of the room. “And don’t touch the original,” she warned, just before closing the door.
So she had just put Raphael and him alone in a room with an original historical record and told them not to touch it. It sounded like it could backfire badly.
Next to the shelf was a couch and a large armchair. It was an invitation. Raphael sat and started reading. Dante made himself comfortable next to him.
“What do you think of all this?” he asked. “Isn’t it suspicious?”
