Playing an educated guess, Caedrasp knew it was time to look closely at the catapults. Striding out onto the killing ground, Caedrasp, his Shadows, the sergeant, and the chief engineer, proceeded by torchlight. Circling the catapult, the engineer asked what he should be looking for.
"Dig," said Caedrasp, gesturing, "about here."
Not understanding, the engineer dug and after a few inches his shovel hit upon buried timbers with a thud. "I don"t understand; this should be solid dirt and rock, compacted and firm for battle," said the engineer, bemused.
"Yes, it should be," said Caedrasp, "Now, let us look carefully for any mounds of dirt and rock nearby; move in a circle."
