Chapter 1: Blake Madrid

Avery's POV:

"Blake Madrid?" I ask.

"Yes, Blake Madrid. He's done illegal things and your mother and I don't want you anywhere near him," my dad explained to me.

"But I'll never meet him?"

"Avery, you never know. We just want you to be safe. He manipulates people. Don't let him control you and take over you. Especially your body," my mom said.

"Okay... let's not go there. I don't want to talk about this anymore, mom and dad. I get it."

My name is Avery Lake. I'm 18 and in college. High school... was a wreck. I mean it was pretty fun and good... but it was just not for me. My middle school year was way better than that! I don't even know... but it was.. just terrible. My grades! I got a 3.8 GPA! Yeah, yeah, that's good, Avery! No it's not! Haha.

My parents warned me about 'Blake Madrid'. Who's he? I've never heard of him before. Why are my parents just telling me now?

I'm an only child unfortunately... When I was 10, I asked my parents for a brother or a sister. They said... NO. Like, what???

My best friend, Juliet and I share a dorm together. No, an apartment, I always get the two mixed up. But Juliet and I have been best friends since we were in elementary school. We tell each other everything. We're total opposites though. She's outgoing, fun, and social. Me, I'm boring! But she thinks I'm fun and that's why I love her. It's Thanksgiving and that's why I'm visiting my family. Juliet's parents passed away.

Juliet came back from the bathroom.

She asks, "What are you guys talking about?"

I answered, "Oh... nothing, J..."

"I thought we told each other everything, A."

We sometimes call each other by our first letter of our name. We're cool like that.

"Just this guy. Nothing to worry about," I said.

"Ouuuuu! What guy, A?!?!?! I have to know!"

"Just a guy, J."

"Is he atleast good looking? I have to meet him!"

My dad said, "No."

"Well, sorry Mr. Lake," Juliet said.

"I mean, no, as in, he's bad. I don't want either of you guys getting involved with him," my dad said.
