Two best friends

When the bell signaled the end of the lesson, everyone sighed more easily, of course, it’s just my guess, but I think the lessons taught by Mrs. Gerben are the most disliked at school. Slowly I got up from my seat, putting my notes and books in my backpack. Without thinking, I turned toward the door when, suddenly, someone grabbed me by the back of my hand. I turned around in a quick motion ready to defend. Behind me stood Angela, a girl I had been friends with since kindergarten. Seeing my defensive pose, she raised her hands and took a few steps back as if to say she was giving up and not going to fight. When I saw her blue eyes widened in fear, I sighed and smiled. When she saw my smile, she spoke in a slightly muffled voice: "Perla, please don't get mad at me. I just wanted you to wait for us. I called, but you didn't answer. I didn't want to upset you," I was about to answer her when Jeffrey joined the conversation. "You're annoying, just by your presence. How many times can I tell you not to sneak up on Pearl from behind because you can get a good beating, after all, you know very well that she's fighting instinctively." Jeffrey and Angela were constantly bickering and insulting each other, it was like a constant routine in their lives, so I wasn’t at all surprised to hear their quarrel again. Although we have been classmates and friends for five years now, they do not get used to each other. "Shut up four-eyes, you're annoying yourself, and Perla would never hit her best friend" as might be expected, an ordinary quarrel broke out between the two of them as I had no desire to listen to them, at the first opportunity I slip away from class and headed towards the next classroom where the next lesson was to take place. I hadn't been halfway there before Jeffrey appeared out of nowhere, and afterward, I heard angry footsteps, I didn't have to look back to understand that it was Angela. As soon as she caught up with us, she attacked Jeffrey again: “How dare you turn your back on me and get out before the conversation is over, it’s completely not gentlemanly, acting like some kind of bumpkin, without the slightest culture,” Jeffrey rolled his eyes, and I barely suppressed the laughter. "Maybe I am a bumpkin, but I don't have to listen to your insults, moreover you're a real fool and dress like a p********e. I don't understand anymore if you're in a school uniform, or maybe you just came back from a strip club where you were the main star of the evening. So, tell me at least one serious reason why I should treat you like a gentleman." Angela's white skin blushed, and her slender body shuddered with such anger, that even her loose golden hair fell on her face and her eyes darkened like the sea before the storm, but it seemed that Jeffrey was not impressed by such a change. Angela began to scream at Jeffrey in an out-of-rage trembling voice. "Who do you think you are. How dare you call me a p********e. If I tell my parents, you will be a lump of dead meat. I'm a noble girl, and you're nobody, pauper. Don't you dare talk to me like that, I swear I'll destroy you " I had never seen Angela lose control so much, but it seems her words didn't work on Jeffrey at all, as if they weren't intended for him. Looking at him, I admired his self-control and ability to withhold a cold face. "I'm not afraid of you at all. Maybe I'm poor as you say, but I have self-esteem and I don't use parental power in a simple dispute, and I don't threaten people for their opinions. It's low to do that. Your parents have a lot of power, money, influence, and really can do a lot, but they have and can do it, not you. You are now nothing like me because you have not yet earned great wealth and gained any power. So don't boast of foreign merits and achievements, you have not achieved anything yet. " Angela looked as if she had been slapped, and Jeffry turned around with a smile, walked down the hall a few feet, and leaned against the windowsill. After regaining her voice, Angela turned to me. 'Perla maybe I can find out why you're not telling him anything and let him talk to me like that?' "Ange, I have said many times before, I will not interfere in the disputes between the two of you. Resolve your disagreements yourself. You are both my best friends and I do not intend to support either side," Angela was furious after my reply. With puffy lips and a raised head, she angrily stepped in the opposite direction from the classroom, where the next lesson was to take place. Probably going to miss it. I sighed and shook my head. Jeffrey quietly approached me and put his hand on my shoulder. "I think she hoped you would support her because you're coming from the same class, two noble ladies" I give him a death stare, dropped his hand from my shoulder, and turned to walk towards the class. "You know Jeffrey if you're trying to annoy me with comments like this, you know you're doing well," he quickly caught up and followed in silence next to me. He knew better than anyone else how I did not like that division into classes: the rich, the poor - all those people living the lives that were destined for them from higher powers. Near class, Jeffrey took me by the hand and stopped me, and spoke in a lower-than-usual voice: "Don't get mad at me, Perla, I didn't want to offend you. I wanted to say that she hoped you would defend her because you're both from rich families. I don't understand that you know. My family, as far as I can remember, always barely meet ends. If not for my scholarship and parents, each of whom works in two jobs, I really couldn’t study here. I have never had and will not have a life like you, Angela, or other students at this school. I was accepted here only for excellent grades. If not for them, my parents would no way be able to pay the full amount for tuition. Just to pay the required fifth must work till the bone. And so far, in all my five years of studying here, you’re the only real friend of mine. ”He looked at me with the gaze of a beaten puppy. I don’t know why, but I was never able to resist that look. I looked at him quietly and sighed.
