Surprise

551 Words
Lucy brought my favorite French buns, butter, jam, and jasmine blossom tea. I looked at the food in front of me without the slightest appetite. Sitting alone, at a huge twelve-seat dining table, I felt very tiny and somehow out of place. I didn’t like this room the most in the whole house. Of course, my mother demanded that I eat here as befits a young lady, but I preferred the kitchen, albeit spacious but there was a pleasant coziness in it as opposed to here. Of course, when my mother had breakfast with me, the feeling was a little different, because this luxury somehow matched my mother's proud posture and mannerisms, but I was very different from my mother, not only in appearance but also in character. I was anxious to be like her and have a strong character. I leaned my elbows on the table and sighed deeply again. When I suddenly heard the dining-room door open, I squatted, quickly stretched out, and pulled my elbows off the table. I sat up straight as a string as my mom thought fit. Suddenly I heard a quiet giggle behind me, I slowly turned to look, Lucy stood there leaning against the door frame and giggled happily. I breathed easier, and she giggled even happier. It annoyed me in a way, but I couldn’t blame her because I imagined what my behavior looked like from the side. No longer paying attention to the hilarious giggle I still heard, I turned around and still looked at my breakfast with the same empty gaze. I heard quiet footsteps behind me that kept getting closer. As they approached, I felt Lucy's gentle hand on my shoulder. I turned my head towards her and saw a friendly smile adorning her face. „You haven't finished breakfast yet? If you’re not in a hurry, I’m late for school“ - I kind of woke up from a dream. „What time is it? Is it so late? ”Lucy just smiled as she saw my face fade, looking at the huge clock in the dining room. He was one of those antiques who reported every hour with beats. At that moment, he was just quietly pointing but showing at half-past nine, which meant I only had half an hour to get to school because the first lesson always started at exactly 9 am. After jumping from the table, I grabbed my belongings and headed for the door. Suddenly I stopped and turned to Lucy, who was calmly, gracefully, and slowly following me: “Lucy, is the car ready?” Lucy just smiled, as if that was a pretty funny question. „Of course. The car is already waiting at the door. Today, I am personally taking you to school“ - I watched in surprise as she slowly bypassed me and opened the front door for me. I was already going to ask her why I was not being taken by the driver, but by her, but I realized that the driver had probably taken my mother away with things. Of course, Lucy accompanied me to school every morning and came to pick me up, but she never drove herself. So far I thought she didn’t even have a driver’s license. That was a big surprise.
