CHAPTER 43 “You don’t have to become a servant anymore if you marry me. We will live a happy life in our town, with our future children. I cannot emphasize how much I love you, Lolita. I’m willing to give my whole life to you for that.” Hideo smiled, and every movement of Lolita turned to ice. “What are you talking about, Hideo?” His smiles topped her from talking. She can’t believe what he was saying. He’s asking her for marriage. He wants to marry her, but he can’t. He’s in the middle; she’s in the lower. They can’t be together. They can’t like together. He helped her, and she was very thankful to him. But marriage? She didn’t think she’ll accept it. “Marrying you. Marrying wasn’t bad, Lolita. I chewed my pride to come over here because, since the day that I met you, I cannot stop thinking about you.” She was struck by his smile. She wished he could wash that smile away. “I…I don’t know, Hideo. I don’t believe in love at first sight. I am sorry, but I will not marry you.” Lolita’s rejection felt like a scrap on Hideo’s chest. He thought she won’t reject her. She’s an extraordinary woman, yet he didn’t know she’ll reject his marriage proposal. He liked her so much, and she’s the diamond in his gold collection. Hideo didn’t speak. He pursed his lips and walked away, leaving Lolita alone. Maybe next time, she’ll say yes. Lolita was swarmed by guilt the moment Hideo left. She doesn’t know. Hideo’s good-looking and attractive. He has a nice built, and he helped her a lot, but she can validate her feelings at the moment. She can’t. But she could’ve said it in a better way; she couldn’t break his heart. She gasped and left the garden. On his way back to the hut, Hideo smiled at himself. He was rejected. He’s wise to know that Lolita’s mind was scattered at that time; if only he didn’t shock her, they might still be a chance. He never thought in her life to fall in love with a servant. Lolita’s different and extraordinary. Anyone can notice her attitude and perception towards things. She’s fierce. She can protect herself and anyone she wanted to watch. Rejection is a part of loving someone extraordinary. It’s a slip for him to face that he wasn’t attractive or likable through her eyes. He took the opportunity of talking to the king to ask her. He promised himself that he won't get any more wives if she ever says yes to him. One is enough; Lolita is enough. But she didn’t say yes. He didn’t know if he should wait for a better time or let go of her. No, he can’t let go of her. She’s part of his dreams. She’s part of the future he’s creating inside his mind. A warrior who fell in love with a servant. Sounds interesting. But the servant could never love him back. Sounds stinging and painful. A fire that can swamp a dog was igniting in between Aragorn and Yosef. They took the opportunity of the sunny sun to have a pork barbecue. They asked Azrael and Zonia, but they seemed to enjoy sleeping at noon. Hideo wasn’t there; he has duties to talk to the king as Leo had asked him. These past few days, the citizens of Caspian were all celebrated for the success of Leo’s actions towards nearby palaces. They offered peace and not war. The last battle between palaces was decades ago, and King Argon didn’t want it to happen again. When Aragorn realized that the pork he was holding was already cooked, he yanked it back to himself and gritted using his teeth. It was hot, and it heated his whole mouth. But it tasted good. “I didn’t know I can create this delicious barbecue. Taste it, Yosef.” Yosef copied what he did. He smiled after he bit the barbecue. “This is amazing, Your Highness. You already know how to cook.” “I ask Zonia sometimes to help me, and she did. I hope I can learn more dishes to cook so we can enjoy more dishes from me.” Yosef’s head fell down. He looked sad. “What’s the matter?” Aragorn asked. The younger guy looked like thinking about something. “Is there something that bugs you off with the barbecue? Isn’t it good?” “There’s no problem with the barbecue. When I visited my family for a week, this is the last food we ate together. I missed them. I missed their hugs and their kisses. I wish I could see them again, and we’ll eat barbecue again.” Even though Aragorn was always with his family, it’s rare for them to eat and enjoy together. At least, he can see them an unlimited number of times, unlike those warriors or soldiers who have a time where they can only visit their loved ones. “They must be proud of you that you are praised by your trainer, and you’re here.” Yosef nodded. “They are! They even asked me about you. They said that the only prince of Caspian must be good-looking since King Argon was so attractive when he was young. My whole family wanted to see you. Maybe soon. After the chaos.” “Maybe tomorrow?” Yosef’s forehead creased. “Huh?” “Tomorrow. Let’s go there tomorrow. You want to visit them, right? Then we’ll do it.” Aragorn smiled. Yosef dropped the thin bamboo stick on the ground and wrapped his arms around Aragorn. “Thank you, Your Highness.” “No worries.” He messed up with his hair. “Just promise that you’re going to be good, Yosef, and you won’t do nasty things in the future.” “I already promised that, and I promised to protect you and Sphyra. Thank you again, Your Highness!” “My pleasure.”
