CHAPTER 53 Lolita did not expect that Hideo would be there when she would have her breakfast in the dining room. The two of them were alone in that room. An awkward silence filled the void between them. She wanted to go back, but that would be obvious to Hideo that she’s avoiding him. She sat on the chair in front of Hideo. She shot a quick glance at him, and she can tell she was undoubtedly handsome. His brows were thick like a forest, and his face was perfectly curved. “Who cooked the food?” Hideo asked. “Me,” she spoke. She didn’t want to tell lies. She should act normal in front of him. She should stay silent and calm in front of him. He’s just a man, eating on the other side of the table. “Do you like it?” “I like very much,” Hideo praised. “Lolita…” She knew this was going to be the conversation she didn’t want to initiate. She should leave the room by now, but she did not. “Why?” “About my proposal. Just forget about it. I’ve done letters and such. I realized that you may be right that this is still early for both of us. I’d like to protect you and be with you most of the time. When I see you suffering as a servant, my heart breaks into pieces.” “I’m not suffering as a servant. I enjoy doing it for my parents and my brothers. Besides, my sister is also her, and I don’t want to leave her alone. I’m clearing this out to you, Hideo. It’s not you why I rejected. It’s just what we are at the moment. I’m just a servant, and you are a warrior. We were not at the same level. We can’t be together.” “Don’t be too harsh on yourself, Lolita. Status doesn’t dictate love for two people. I don’t care if you’re just a rat, but I’d like to pursue you more. I’m going to surrender for now. I am not giving up, just giving the time for you and me. I know what I am feeling, and no one can stop it, even you.” “Why me, Hideo? Why me?” “Because you’re special.” Lolita can’t help but smile inside of her. Her heartfelt a tingling sensation as if it was filled with the sweetest treat. “What’s special in me? I’m just a servant. I’m just a woman.” “When you and Dina were still not friends, I saw how you protected yourself and faced them. I saw how you talk with intelligence. When the queen was on the verge of defeat, you were there to protect her. You did everything to help her and even asked me about the things that can help you. You said you treat the queen as your second mother, and you can’t let her suffer. I believe that if a woman can love another woman like her mother, she deserves to be also loved.” Lolita could not speak. She was staring at him while her shivering hands were touching the bowl of soup. “And Lolita, you’re the only service that I know who enjoys being a servant. I cannot trace the exhaustion on your face. You smiled and took care of other people. You even cared for Dina when she was sick, even though she’s the meanest person to you. I apologize if I had to like you, but I can’t force myself anymore to stop.” “I don’t know, Hideo. I rejected you because I don’t like you. I rejected you because marriage is complicated, and I promised myself that I am not going to enter a think like it if I’m unsure about it. I’m still not sure about my feelings, but I want to try. Not for marriage, but for the happiness of the two of us.” “Do you want us to try? To slow down? To develop our feelings more?” “Right. Slow down. Little by little until we’re both ready to live under the same roof.” Smile gleamed on both of their faces. They will try. They will…
