CHAPTER 55 Zonia went out of the garden early. She watered the plants, which Dina was the one who’s always doing it. Some of the servants were still asleep, including Aragorn and the other guys inside their respective rooms. Zonia cannot explain why she woke up early. The world naturally woke her up. The watering can be heavy when it was filled with water. Even though she’s a woman, she managed to carry it through different plant boxes. The plants aroused as if they were given an energy drink. After giving water to the plants in the different plant boxes, she sat on a plant box to rest herself. The job became her exercise In the morning. She somehow felt that she’s now awake a hundred percent. Silence filled her ears. She was hearing nature sounds that are calming her mind. It explained why Dina wanted to be in the garden most of the time. It is because the place is calm and the music of nature was lovely. Suddenly, the sound of nature was dominated by cracks of dry leaves and footsteps coming towards her. She stood up and roamed her eyes around. In a shorter distance, she saw William grinning at her. His position was closer than the last time. She felt that she was stuck on the ground and can’t explain if William’s figure she’s facing right now was real or just a hallucination. Winds of an icy mountain brushed her body. She wanted to run and scream for help, but she looked like she saw a ghost. A ghost of her past. The past still haunts her. “You’re not real,” she said to herself. But the figure of William moved. He’s not just a figure. He’s a person. “Why can’t you shout help to your friends and protectors? The man who’s abusing you right now is facing you. Won’t you do what you did in the market last time?” He was a terror. Every piece of the past was coming back to her. A picture of William hitting her face was in her mind. She’s even feeling his slightest touch on her body. And the death of William’s first wife. “Leave me alone. You’re now free, and I don’t want to bother you anymore. I won’t tell anyone, and just please live in peace.” William chuckled. “How can I leave in peace when almost everyone in the palace of Caspian is treating me like a phoenix? Everyone is haunting me, and it’s all because of you! I won’t let you live on yourself alone and happy. You have to face your nightmare. You have to face me. Not now, but you will.” “I will not be going to come back to you!” “I bought you, and I own you. No matter what happened or who happened to protect you, I’ll crush their mouth and shout at their faces the truth that I own you. You would know the consequences if you didn’t follow my rules back then. And now, you disobey almost all of the rules. Just wait and see, Zonia. You’ll be like her.” William let her face his back and shiver in fear. He stepped away from her, and the cold winds of the past surround her. She thought she was free, but she wasn’t. Arms wrapped around her that made her scream and eerie noise. A hand covered her mouth. “Why are you screaming, Zonia? If they hear you, they might think that I am doing something bad to you.” She recognized the voice and calmed down. Azrael released his hand from covering Zonia’s mouth, and he rotated her body to look at him. Fear planted on her face. “Did I scared you? I didn’t mean to. I saw you standing there, and I wrapped my arms around you to try to pull a joke on you. But it wasn’t a joke. You’re shivering in fear, and I apologize for what I’ve done. I’ve done it twice, but I didn’t learn. Don’t worry, I’m not going to scare you again.” He assured her with a smile, but the fear remained on her face. There’s more than him that scares her, he thought. “It wasn’t you, Azrael. It wasn’t you that scared.” He held her hands, pressed them to calm her down. He was right. It wasn’t him. “Then what made you shiver. You can tell me. You know I’m always here to listen to you, Zonia.” “He’s back,” she almost whispered. “Who’s back?” he asked back, but he somehow has a guess on the person Zonia’s talking about. And he wished it wasn’t that person. “William. The last time I told you that he appeared, it was real. He scared me that time as if it was a warning for something bigger. He came back again this morning and threatened me. He’s going to capture me, Azrael. He’s after me, and if he catches me….” “You’re not going to die, Zonia. The royal palace is filled with a lot of people that can protect you. I’m even here to protect and make sure that William won’t capture or hurt you.” “I am scared, Azrael. I am scared to death. I thought I am free from him, but he managed to escape. And now, he’s going to capture and kill me. I still want to live, have a family, grow old. The scene where he laid his hands on his first wife came back to me to haunt me. I could’ve helped her live and escape, but I didn’t. I just watched at her while crying. I should have….” “You didn’t, but she’s happy that you didn’t. She’s happy that you’re still alive and you’re still fighting the man that wreck your lives. You’re a survivor of his abuse. You should be fearless and ready to face. Think about being a representative of those women who suffered from William. If you defeated him, it would be a grace for them.” “But I am scared, Azrael. I am weak. I am just a servant.” “You’re not. And if you are….” He pulled her towards him. “I am here to help you with that. I am going to protect you and make you stronger.”
